LAMPING FOXES

Recommended Posts

im lookin for some feedback here if possible. When lamping a fox do you leave the lamp on the fox while you call them in or switch the lamp off and then call the fox in.Personally iv seen many methods used ,i usaully shine the light in front of the fox with the filter on while calling and when the fox gets close i slip the dog and take the filter off and give it full beam ,any feeback appreciated lads

Most of the time I keep the lamp on [with the red filter on]. I don't shine it directly at the fox I point it to the side of it but I can still see the fox's eyes in the side glare of the beam.

I keep the filter on even when it's in range and keep calling even after the dogs slipped, this allows the dog to get closer to it before it gets spooked. When it turns the filters flicked up and then the fun starts.

Keep the lamp on the ground after spotting him somewhere inbetween you and him to draw him.If its wind and rain try walking upto him with lamp at the side. When you get closr run the dog down the lamp still at the side and when its really close bring it on to the fox. This can work like a dream or just join the long list of other cock ups.Depends on the night and youre judgement etc.

When im calling i leave the lamp off with the filter on it and shine it in front of me for a second to see were he his ,then when he gets in range slip the dog and remove the filter and keep calling this works for me but it all depents on how well the fox has been lamped before.
