fallow stalking

Recommended Posts

alright lads and lasses,

headed out for a shot yesterday morning early, and hoped into the landy for the 110 mile journey......yes 110 miles, got to the field it was still dark with the moon shining and a fairly heavy fog rolling over the land, we started up a track and saw a couple of hinds a calf which gave a bark when we got to within about 40 yards of them, walking up the lane leading to the field we reached a peak we could look into the field over, and saw a lone fallow grazing, we watched for ages as it grazed moving slowly to and away from us until we decided to go in for a stalk as we could not make out if it was a buck or doe,

we stalked in the long grass softly softly as the morning was still, every noise seemed amplified as we got ever closer, with the two of us fixed on the one animal and hind a calf approached from our right grazing as they went, suddenly a buck ran up from our right and stopped not far from us and stared in our direction knowing something was not right, but he started to graze slowly, but our rifles were pointing in the wrong direction, so i started to slowly turn and up his head poped i froze, and once he started to graze again got the rifle around a little at a time.......he went to run but with a shout he stopped dead looked for 1 second to long and off went a speeding 95 grain sst into his neck, down like a stone he went.

this is the result............
