FerretJamie 0
Hi All, Would you say it is safe to fly a Bird of Prey whilst in moult in the summer? Some say it is fine, and others have told me not to as they are under going enough stress over the moult. Thanks in advance. Edited September 22, 2008 by FerretJamie Quote Link to post
rickardo 76
its down to the person , most peole like the break and a bird can have a good rest, after a hard season, its cant be that good to keep a bird at hunting weight all year. and you try finding a bird when its sat in a tree with all the leaves on.. NIGHTSHADOW 3
I would never fly my birds after March, due to them coming in to moult, also you dont want to be killing next years stock Quote Link to post
trappa 518
Its a handy time to let them get their new plumage. In the summer there is usually too much cover on the trees and plants to see much, and the quarry are young. Not ideal and gives fuel to the tree huggers. Quote Link to post
dafydd23 7
Hi All, Would you say it is safe to fly a Bird of Prey whilst in moult in the summer? Some say it is fine, and others have told me not to as they are under going enough stress over the moult. Thanks in advance. i flew my female harris throught the moult had no problems she enjoyed better than staying in the mews or tyed to the bow perch on the lawn only got a inch left on 1 tail feather , aslo i give her a full crop every week on a sunday and monday so over weight till wednesday and only at hunting weight for 3 days max , as for cover with the trees just gives squirrels and birds more places to hide and get to cover . and there fit all year long giving you a much better hunter and a better bird Quote Link to post
blue2 0
I dont have a problem with flying through the moult, although it not something i do myself, but you have to be aware of birds nesting etc, if your bird finds a nice easy snack you may end up losing it. If i had some nice open land i might be prepared to give it a go....mick Quote Link to post
