Pin pointing with the B+F

Have been having a mess about with the b+f again and have noticed i cant pin point exactly where the collar is below me. I usually just put it on the floor and scan about above it. When the reciever is right above it it is obviously on the lowest reading, but it seems to stay at his lowest reading for about a meter either side of the coller.

 

Now it might well be me being daft but is this how it is meant to work?

 

I know when you dig down to a dog you try to make the hole as wide as it is deep so is it not really any need for a pin point reading? For shallow digs do you use a T bar to locate the Tube before didding aswell?

good question mate, we have found the same, the old deben was much better at pin pointing but not in the same league over all. we always use the bar to pin point and use the locater to get us in the right area, but you will get the hang of it

yes old nog you are being daft!!!only joking mate just move it back and forward much slower than the old debens it will pin point your dog accurately enough,but you must move it slowly.

Nog when you moving the reciever about leave it in each place for 4 or 5 secs once you got a close mark,find the lowest reading then move it a foot up,down,left,right but leave it on the floor in each position for a bit each time,if you get a lower reading when you move it start again using that point as the centre,like you say sometimes you can move it a few feet without it altering because of dips etc,if that happens find the centre of that mark and dig there,thats what i do and always dropped into the tube so far

I thought you could pin point like you can on the deben mark 1s, thats the best thing about them boxes i recon, but like you say b+f is in a different league. Cheers

just do what waz said and you wont go far wrong the b&f is very slow with the signal but it is accurate, best of luck

i have nearly chucked mine over the hedge a few time s as it wont pin point the dog exactly which is why i always take the bar no matter what as it important when digging young first season dogs as you dont want to be putting them under pressure by coming in on top of the quarry

talking to B&F yesterday new collor STILL getting tested now half the size and battery will last up to four times longer but wont be out till the end of this season he said , oh and for the anti bar brigade he sells the locator and said he still never goes without a T BAR
