if you want fast try 40 grain nostler with 34.0 grains of varget powder. its very accurate but not over doing the fps so your barrel will last longer. but will still be good for around 3600fps from a 24 inch 1 in 14 twist.

50 grain vmax will shoot well to again with varget powder34.6 grains will give you around 3600 fps again but will buck better in the wind. and hit abit harder.

im just startin up in reloading world , but im led to beleive that both the .223 and .22-250 rounds are actually .224 bullets ....correct?? if this is the case can i use the .22-250 bullets for .223 cases as i have a friend who would like me to reload a few rounds now and again for him , i know i wil also need to purchase a second set of dies for the .223.

What sort of speeds should i start worrying about the barrel burning as id like to get the most use out of the gun, +3800fps?

also the gun im gettin is a sako 75 in .22-250 not sure on the barrel twist but what weight of bullets can a stabalise , can i use light bullets on smaller game then have larger 70 grainers for larger animals , is it true that for use of shooting roe in scotland there is a minimum bullet weight which you have to use

yes mate the 224 bullets you can buy can be used for 222, 223, 22/250 as for the speed that isnt everything mate accuracy is what you want. after all what is 3800fps if it isnt on target ! you will have to work up the load 1st you cant really just start with a high fps as it could be a danger in your rifle and to you if it was to blow.

as for the lighter bullets there good as there nice and flat shooting but 50 grain would be better i think.

as for 70 grains it would be pretty hard to stabalise them out of a 22/250 as the twist rate is more suited to lighter bullets

I know all we 22.250 homeloaders have got our own favourite powder/bullet heads.

I was given a recipe for my 22.250 in Blaser R93 by a guy who shot this recipe through his Remington but with Shillon Barrel and various other modifications, winning many long range competitions My rifle will now group .6" at 150 yards and just over 1.6" at 300 yards. Very recently a friend bought a CZ 550 in 22.250 and after 40 shots shooting the barrel in with this recipe using new brass (unfire formed) he is getting sub .5" at 150 yards - I was actually amazed that three very different rifles in 22.250 could shoot so accurately with the same bullet recipe

The recipe?

Remington brass - trim to 1.900"

N 150 Powder using 37 grains

CCI primers

55 grain Hornaday Vmax heads

The cartridge overall length is 2.370" (ogive measurement of 1.970") The bullet is seated well back in the case which leaves less air space in the cartridge so creating a more uniform burn rate.

The accuracy achieved above is very much down to ensuring that the barrel is spotlessly clean thus also providing first shot accuracy - methodical cleaning is often overlooked as a tedious necessity - believe me it is so very important.

Hello iv found my 22.250 will shoot anything accuratly & same in other's rifles i have found it to be the easyest cal to load. I work 50g-55g v-max or soft point sierra/speer heads & normall large rifle primmers i use cci as a match primmer burns hotter thus a hi/max charge with a match primmer would be way over charge of 2g-3g.
