shell 42
Remember the litter of lurchers we bred 16 months ago out of our collie greyhound Atol to an old fashioned Norfolk type... lost most of the litter within the first week, to Canine Herpes virus. Steep learning curve for not only us, but also people we talked to about it. 3 pups survived. A bitch called Ruby who is with a mate of ours, no recent picture, this was when she was 12 months old. The other pups, a bitch called Reeba we kept, and a dog called Harley a good friend of ours, Matt, took. Now Matt has been out the odd time for a mooch with us and our lot, but since harley has grown up a bit he's been on at us to take him out for a mooch. So we did. Harleys seen the odd rabbit, but it's basically been 2 novices out together. Up until this aft! Reeba is coming on a dream... caught a big ears the other night Matt came over to ours and we went over to some permission that we knew would hold a few. Harley ran well with our lurchers, got the jist of it really well, behaved himself pretty well, held on the slip quietly and watching well, and even set off after 2 rabbits off his own accord without being told. Harleys first rabbit Was a bit unsure what to do with it when he'd caught it, but he didn't let it go! Bit of help from the borders and he was mad keen! He seemed to twig what it was all about after that, and was in at every course with his mother and sister. Matt went home chuffed with his dog, and having had an enjoyable time watching them all working together. Reeba Sorry about naff pictures... was a great afternoon out, accounted for 11 rabbits, which young Harley caught 2 off. We went home chuffed we'd bred a dog that could do it. Matt went home asking when he could come out with us the next time! Looking forward to educating Matt and Harley some more and catching much more with him and his sister. Shell Quote Link to post
