Guest greengrass123
Where did your interest in hunting begin. My lurcher career began by walking a dog which belonged to the girl next door, when i was about 8. the dog was a collie blooded lurcher. I use the word lurcher, but by peoples idea of a lurcher today, it would be laughed out of any show ring. But believe me that dog was one of the best pot fillers ive ever seen. The shooting and ferreting i put down to my brothers influence. Strange thing though im the only one in our family with an interest in angling.
kreet 0
when i was younger i was into a bit of everything we had 3 aviarys all over 10' bye 4' with a 10x10 shed with indoor flights then round the back 2 6x3 flights with a wee shed also a fiosh house of 14 bye 12 feet with aprox tanks i also had the three inside kennels and a run of 10x10 when i was twelve but before that i started of quite young first time i ever mind going out alone was me and my mate who stayd down stare got a shot of lee's wee albino jill (wildfowler of the site) i must have been about primary 5 neil would have been p7 we went up the fail about a 2 hour walk from us cant quite remember how many we got but i mind neil having to pull out the jill as she had a rabbit at the entrance to a burrow on a hill we still ferret now. it all began when i was younger though me and at that time my best mate butch used to go out with the terriers toby and buster buster my wee black and tan jrtx tiny wee thing but was a bit mad butch had toby a wee tan and white jrt belonging his auntie we used to bush whins with them for 3 hour plus every day in the holidays we would walk the feilds and woods local to us pritty much just into everything, we were going poaching up the reservwire at about 8 alone and catching alot of fish when the foot and mouth was about we would head up as the roads were blocked of and we would fish from 8 am till 9 and 10 pm every day catching hundreds of jack pike a few big ones and dozens of trout all on spinners just walking the banks over and over on a big reservwire . i was also into the greyhounds as my grandad races them so bye 10 i was taking his dogs round for him and bye 12 i was a parader on the track then to become a box boy and maintnance assistant i used to do the sales the lot . at about 10 or 11 we were out ferreting one day at that time wehad about ten hutches between three of us and about 5 litters of 8x kits but we were ferreting and i was reading the scot ads one friday morning we was tiking school actualy lol and there was a wee black whippet bitch 9 weeks £ so a called the guy and he was woken up but ses no probs fire threw so i sprinted home and once the dad finished work i was of threw for her she caused me alot of grief between jumping out kennels and yelping but she calmed and become a right wee tool she wouldnt leave my side unless leashed bye my mate whitch we would do to run her to me every day and eventualy while mooching a quary machinery area she took to the cent of a rabbit and of she went threw everything after the bloody thing i thought she was dead then back she came rabbit almost the size of her i think she was about 11 months at the time not long after that my dad was killed at his work so everything pritty much went to pot i went from ferreting and fishing everyweekend to hanging the streets quite quickly my grandad wouldnt let me get another greyhound as he thought i was loosing intrest so sure enough bye 14 i was drinking kinda went of the rails for a few years with nothing at all to do with hunting then i met my partner who i now have 2 great kids to and im back at it have been for 4 years now at the moment got my 3 ferrets and my springer got the dobermans but they are just pets to keep the partner happy and im soon to get another pup as i lost my whippet last year nothat i had gotten the year previously so im getting back to the game lee has taken me under his wing and im now his under study and am lead to believe im second in comand and his buisness so im doing quite well with the hunting now and in all honesty i think i always will be into the sport and ill be sure when i pass my kids are aswell my eldest at 5 has had a few fish seen ferreting and shooting had a bit shot of the air gun and while on a rest can hit reasonably well so she is well on the road to becoming a hunter herself . well that was a bit of a life story than a whow did one but theres my story hope you enjoy . regards kris. Paul in North Lincs 15
As a kid whilst my mates were playing footy, and on their spectrums, I was out and about with me best mate - Grandad. We went everywhere together. Bird nesting, rabbitng, shooting, snaring, fishing, fereting. His influentce gave me a passion for the great outdoors, which is still with me today. The old lad died a few years back, but when I go out I often wear his old flat cap, and in a strange sort of way, I'm still taking and him out with me. They were the happiest days of my life, sat round ashby ville ponds with fields voles caught in catch em alive traps. We'd have a little bit of target practice in the old paddocks with the sawn off Sharps Inover, which slip nicely inside his barber jacket, and off we'd go, with a tin Stones Bitter a piece. Mam would have murdered me at 10 years old!!!!! Now I have a little lad of my own whos nerarly 5. Hes as keen as mustard, so hopefully I'll keep the legacey going. Who cares how a dog looks in the show ring, any working dog should be based on function over form. I can't really remember how I got into hunting, my Dad had spaniels, shotguns & air rifles for as long as I can remember.

Tiny 7 1,694
Well do i start... The first ever hunting with dogs i can remember was when i was about 5 or 6 and one of the older lads from where i lived had found a lurcher and was going to see what it could do, So i went along to see what it was all about,, And i remember walking for miles and we had one run and i think it was a hare if i remember rightly and it never picked it up, But for them few seconds that the chase was on it was like all your birthdays x-mas at once it was the butterflies in your stomach just everything all rolled into them few seconds of the chase it was like something inside me just went ''click'' And iv been hooked ever since.... and then a few year ago i meet a man called chris from uttoxeter (staffordshire) while i was out ferreting got talking to him and never really looked back he introduce to lamping, coursing, and ferreting properly,,, and went out with him for about 2 full season 5/6 days a week and learned a hell of a lot,,, So thats what got me into hunting....
