country wide kennels

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just picked up this thread when I typed in "metal panels for dog runs" and I am very glad I did.

We ordered four kennels and runs from Countrywide in July 2008 and initially were very happy with the service. We paid for the kennels in full and were promised delivery within 3 weeks.

We were horrified to notice, on our bank statement, that the payment had been taken twice. This had a terrible impact on our bank balance and we had problems with our mortgage payment and all monthly bills as the payment was well over £1,000 - dobule this and you see our problem.

Our "overpayment" was refunded but we incurred considerable bank charges. Three weeks later we still hadn't received the kennels.

Many, many phone calls were made between us, Richard, Bev and Rob with promises flying round all over the place.

At the September Midland Game Fair we still hadn't received the kennels so our first call was the Countrywide Kennels stand. We found, and talked to, a very very nervous Rob. After some barely veiled threats from my husband (who is not a particularly big man) Rob developed a stutter and promised us the earth. To cement the agreement our delightful springer spaniel cocked his leg on a £140 dog bed! Rob duly cleaned it and gave it to us for free - probably to get rid of us because we weren't being quiet.

We rang daily after that and 10 days later our kennels arrived and were errected. They are not exactly as we were promised but considering many people have lost money and don't have kennels we feel very grateful to have anything at all.

I've also heard Canine are in big trouble, lets hope they haven't treated customers as bad as Countrywide have. I wonder how soon they will return as a new company!!? Wouldn't surprise me if they already had that sorted out! it shouldn't be allowed to happen.

Its a big shame that Canine Kennels could go the same way as Countrywide kennels and we can only blame the current economic crisis thats bringing even giants like MFI and Woolworths out of the market. I have dealt with Canine Kennels before and their products and customer sevice surpass all quality I have seen in the market in relation to dog products.

Their level of professionalism when dealing with customers is utmost. Only thing I know is they would not hesitate to tell their customers the truth if the situation was bad and they would not just disappear from the face of the earth without advicing their clients what to do if they became a victim of the current situation.

Having known some of the sales/customer service team at Canine Kennels, I would not hesitate going back to them whenever they go or whoever they come up as. But at the moment, I will keep my money to myself and only buy what I can see. I hear more companies are to follow suit. Little advice! Beware where you put your money especially at these troubled times. We all love our dogs but you dont want to loose your hard earned cash for nothing. We hope the situation gets better sooner than later.

As a dog lover and enthusiast, we all feel the blow and feel sorry for the affected companies. Hope one day they come back and come back more strongly.

I think you'll find that firstly canine kennels HAVE gone into administration AND your wrong about them telling their customers, the only way people are finding out is by RINGING THEM when they do eventually answer their phone! And I've heard from sources they happily took £700 off a lady on the 1st Dec when they went into administration on the 4th dec. Don't tell me that they had no idea of how bad things were when they took that ladies money!

AND all the advice I got off them to find out about our £500 we'd spent with them was 'how did you pay?' my response 'debit card..' their reply 'oh well you won't get your money back!' They don't deserve to come back as another company. Wake up it's basically theft!

I am not going to come on here and blow my own trumpet, we do make kennels and runs for working dog, are in no danger of closing down in fact we are working seven days a week and overtime every night to meet demand, saying that we are only a small family company, the problems with the big companys is that they do as already mentioned need orders to come in with payment to move there"your money" around to keep the businees going, once they hid a bad patch , and I think the main problem has been the rise in steel prices along with the shit state the country is in at the moment, they find it easy to close the doors and use your money to pay off there debts, so saving them losing there homes ect which is what would happen to us little men, I know as soon as countrymans weekly found out what was going on the cancelled all there adds, in fact I took the back page that was to be there next ad next week, like I said Im not here to blow my own trumpet or to tout for work, but some of you are saying not to order with out paying up front, well in most cases this is never going to happen with business's, I used to do this and take payment on delivery, saying to customers when the kennels in your garden and you are happy with it you then pay me, all ofcourse were over the moon with this as you would be. but after six times of taking orders and then ringing the customer to arrange a delivery date and be told sorry we cant take the kennel, and believe me some of the reasons are out of this world, like my parteners left and no longer lives here to some ones died and we no longer have the dog, some of the reasons may have been right but Im sure most were just messers, so now like ever one else I would not start to make a kennel for any one with out taking payment first, as most of our kennels are bespoke one off jobs made to fit in the space a customer has given us measurement for, more so no one in there right mind is going to take an order of a customer from the other end of the country and take a chance of turning up maybe two hundred mile away and hope ever thing is going to be ok when the get there. The way these big companys have treated customers is very wrong and they should not be aloud to get away with it, but the sad thing is they will and most will probable come back in the very near future and some may even take money of customers they have already ripped of once before, I myself have thought about dealing with these people myself in the past for panels to put in to our own timber kennels, I glad I never got round to it as I too would have been in the same boat now, we all need to keep a watch out for new companys strating up in this game and if any one nows the new owner to be folk who have be in the trade in the past then dont be shy and let others know because its not fair that these companys will be trading on the backs of those poor people that have been let down so badly now

A small point, maybe, and I may be missing something, but I have just got my January 2009 issue of Sporting Shooter and Countrywide Kennels are still advertising in it, 50% off for the Sporting Shooter readers who order in December??

could anyone who went to the creditors meeting report back on what happened. I was too ill to go. Phoned the liquidation company but was only told they were in liquidation with no assets that she was aware of. I was told to speak to my credit card company. Now at a loss as to who is officially responsible and which (if any) of them will re- emburse me. As someone who has never been in this position before am out of my depth here and would appreciate advice

I didnt go to the meeting but did receive my creditor pack post meeting, essentially, the company has gone down owing more than £200, 000 with very little assets. Probably safe to say that no money will be forthcoming from the liquidation.

If you paid by credit card then this is the best course of action, you should have some level of protection and hopefully get reimbursed by the credit card company.

Hopefully, the liquidators report to the DTI or BERR as it is now known will prompt an investigation into the conduct of the directors. Any information regarding improper conduct (eg incorrect taking of payment and deposits) should be notified to the liquidator so that they can be included in the report.
