Deer hunting Licence UK help needed

Recommended Posts

.dsc 1 dsc 2 are for badge collecters not hunters ..

I agree there are some very good stalkers that have no qualification or 'Badges'.

What it is, is a minimum standard of training on which to build you own skills upon. A lot of landowners are refusing stalking to unknown people with out the DSC1 on insurance grounds. I.e Proven competence. It is aminimum qualification on all FC land now I understand, and indeed I have heard talk of DSC2 becomming minimum.

So, no, it doesn't prove you have 10 years on the hill, but it proves you taken time to gain a very basic understanding.

Same goes for a driving test, It proves you have the basic understanding on which to build you skills.

Would i go out with someone who has just passed their test. No. But they are legally insured and able to gain experience.

That is my opinion anyway.

hi mattydski,so what would be the best way for me to proceed to obtain the dsc1,& dsc2, do you have to have another liecence for a deer rifle,or would a talk with my firearms officer be the best way to go.

Ohh thats resurected an old post!!

Several points to cover there.

Depends on wht experience you have? If you have no experience, or have never shot deer..My advice would be to try it first. Its not everyones cup of tea...even those that think it might be..

Why do you need a DSC? ie is there a driving factor behind your requirement?

Have you got an FAC, or is this your intended route to get a centrefire rifle?

If you have firearms experience and want to convert to deer, then a short course followed by an exam should be suitable, maybe over a long weekend...But you have needed to do a good amount of study and revision, even before the training. There would be little or no actual firearms training involved.. If you cant shoot, forget this route..

Are you familiar with what a dsc involves...ie... the course modules?
