Itchy/irritating skin help

My terrier started to chew her skin on her back around 4-5 weeks ago. I have taken her to the vets and he said it is not a mite/flea or worm problem. He puts it down to her running around in corn/wheat fields which is irritating her skin. He prescribed a 2 week course of steroid tablets and said to keep her away from the fields and see if it clears up, which it did in a fashion. Got up this morning and she has been chewing again.

She has always been fed on raw meat/veg and wholegrain rice so nothing has been changed in her diet.

Is there any lotions or creams to cure itchy/irritating skin and where can i buy them from.

Skin probs are always a can of worms as the itching/fur loss is a symptom not a diagnosis finding the cause is key.

What exams did the vet do ie skin scrapings, if they are realy sure it's not an infestation, have you tried removing the cause ie no corn fields for a while to see if it improves and work through what else it may be trying to eliminate one after the other till you have it.

There are a variety of ointments for skin irritation but it's better to treat the cause rather than the symptoms.

treat it with benzo benzocoate this will cool the area and stop the itching if you have any mites it will also kill them

benzo benzoate is good for skin irritations.my dad has an alsation that had the same problem with itching and loosing fur the vet did a few tests and it turned out the dog is allergic to either fleas or the dead fleas.

had the same problem last year,tried every cream potion and lotion known to man,vet said the dog had a secondary skin infection caused by flea,s or was allergic to flea,s.He said the dog would probably have it for the rest of its life, as after months of treatment nothing had improved....anyway dog was bitten out lamping,a slight infection apeared put dog on antibiotics ...hey presto no more skin infection nor has it returned after 12 months,try antibiotics they worked on my dog worth a try..

Vet did a scraping and gave her the all clear. Going keep her away again from the fields and bushes for a couple of weeks to see if it clears up. Will keep you informed what happens

I would like to suggest that maybe Springtime has a product that will work for your dogs itchy skin.....I have a german shepherd that had what seemed be "hotspots" on her back leg, she was always licking at it and it was sore , raw and red. I tried Springtimes Fresh Factors tablets and that cleared her up pretty fast, I kept her on it 2 years, when I would run out she would get it back again, so I got it reordered, and within a week of restarting them she would clear up again. I ran out last fall and didnt get it reordered yet....but thats the first thing I will do if/when it comes back. Maybe its a warm weather thing with her, I dont know yet.

Just a suggestion. Springtime Inc. products are all natural ingredients, such as bee pollen, etc...really works for my Halo. You can find them online..springtimeinc.com if I remember right.

Someone has already said Benzyl Benzoate,try Camrosa should get it off net.

Could also be what your bedding dog on,if its the fields.Your not

Our dog has skin problems and best thing so far has been human Piriton allergy tablets.

Vet told us to try them and they work a treat.

£3 for 30 tablets from the chemist ( has to be Piriton thou ) our dog is 15 kilo in weight and has 1 morning and 1 evening.

ive just had the same problem, it turned out to be yellow mite witch i treated with frontline.

benzo is ya best bet mate but watch the chemists face when you ask for it[crab lotion]

Did your vet, empty the dogs anal glands?

Also skin scrapes rarely show anything, full allergy tests/bloods are a better way of diagnosis, but can be expensive, if you are not covered by insurance, I would also go for STRONGHOLD as opposed to frontline, it has an ingredient(selamectin) which is the only effective preventative treatment for sarcoptic mites (mange), and effective in the treatmnet of flea allergy dermatitis I would also remove bedding, and clean kennel area, and maybe use vet bed for the mean time.

Keep the diet the same, and try to feed a good quality, natural source of food.
