i was sitting in the van the other day and noticed a load of starlings jump from the roofs and start flying around and around like when they see a hawk/falcon. anyways i look to my right and like a silent bullet a bird flys in with its wings folded back straight in at the only bird still feeding on the ground next to a telegraph pole. BANG nailed it. what i think was a little sparrow. now im pretty hot on when i see british BOP's but this ive never seen it looked the size of a spar BUT... and this is what is baffling me it was pure black. not a shinyish black like a crow but a matt black that seemed to absorb any light.

well... any idea people? :hmm:

NO IDEA. BUT THERE WAS NO LIGHTER PLUMAGE ON ITS CHEST. IF ANYTHING IT WAS JUST A GREYISH COLOR AND NOT THE USUAL LIGHT SPECKLED BROWN.

It could well be a Spar Stokie! I used to breed a good few and it was not unusual to see them come out with completely different coloured plumage, some was pretty pale and some was real Dark. some of the Muskets when moulted are very Red on the chest like a Robin and some hardly at all, a friend a good few years back had the Darkest spar I have ever clapped eyes on! it was a total cracker.

Having said that mate there is a variety of different birds lost these days which are not Indegiouse to the UK :hmm:....
