OldNog 432
Good morning! well i went out and was there just as it was getting light. Didnt notice and fresh marks outside the entrence but collared the dog up and let her in. She went to ground a bit causiosly (this was her first time ever down a hole) and had a wonder about but seem more intrested in trying to dig down in the entrance to the hole! Anyway i kept encouraging her and she did go further down and gave a few barks and growls but that was it. Now i dont know what to make of this....was there someone home and was my bitch being useless or was it just excitment and a bit of caution? shes seen foxes above ground and was mad for them and when she had a few barks underground she didnt come running out she just kept buggering about in the entrance! hmmmm a little bit of a concern. I dont think il try anything again until i find someone to take me out with experienced dogs so she can learn because i dont really think she knew what to do! Quote Link to post

Hey up old nog , told you that the bitch would remember the smell and enter on her own ,but thats just the start the rest will come with experience and time ,bit of advice though never encourage your bitch unless she has definately made contact !! or you will wind her up and be digging to a rabbit or worst case nothing at all. Good luck only time will tell sooner or later you will come across the right earth where the bitch will bump straight into charlie and then its up to her.. Quote Link to post
scent 509
old nog she might have gave a few barks because there was still a fresh scent of fox out of the hole .The fox may have moved on yesterday or even last night .You will meet on to ground soon enough pal plenty or rain and wind and they will in the ground Quote Link to post
