tod 3
i was haven this conversation with someone yesterday and he was saying that if the bitch hasent had a litter before and you decide to breed of her around that age there is more chance of complications. but i think aslong as the bitch is fit and healthy it will be ok. skycat 6,173
If it is to be her first litter expect the following: the possibility of a slow, difficult whelping. The possibility of a caesarian: can you afford a few hundred quid at the vets? Some pups might not make it. The bitch could die (even a healthy young bitch can have problems sometimes) Could you handle hand rearing a litter? Could you stand losing the bitch in labour? Not trying to put you off, but it is best to be prepared: she could have absolutely no problems at all, but it will be a bit like expecting a 60 year old woman to have twins or something like that! If you do decide to breed, then get some Raspberry Leaf tablets from Dorwest Herbs, and follow the instructions carefully: do not give them to the bitch during the first 3 weeks of pregnancy. They can help with easier whelping: best of all, if it is going to be your first litter as well LOL, go and buy The Book of the Bitch: tells you everything you could want to know about whelping. brock 11
thats a risk only you can take,if the bitch meant a lot to me i would leave her be just incase of complications Quote Link to post

bird 9,933
As long as she as had a litter before, you should be ok. The older bitch more probs you can have, the best age is from 2- 7, if she as not had litter before, i would have a serious think about it. BIRD Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,802
I agree with Skycat, if she's sound, do it now (or asap ) but keep an eye on her. Good luck with the perpetuation of a good working line. Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
