Timelord 0
Don't quote me on this guys, but I'm assuming that Irish law will be the same as UK law as it is after all part of the United Kindom. So if this is the case then 12ft/lb will be the legal limit (anything beyong this will require an FAC). Caliber choice for your purpose is entirely up to you with .177/.20/.22 being the air gun choice, not forgetting .25 either... Quote Link to post
Guest hyperion
im pretty sure that you have to have any air rifle on f.a.c in northern ireland! i could be wrong! Quote Link to post

You need a license for any rifle over there, I seem to remember Ditch Shitter saying in one of his posts. The bonus is however, that once you've got said license, you're not restricted by a ft/lbs limit. Quote Link to post
mossyh07 64
Ireland is not in the United Kingdom... Its a republic Quote Link to post
T78 4
yeah, any airgun needs a ticket over there.but at 20 yrds i would have thought 12 ft/lbs would be enough.any more is overkill and not needed where there's a risk of damage to property. Quote Link to post
sean 0
Guys and gals not to get political but across the water there is both north and south of ireland. One belongs to UK and other does not. As far as laws are concerned it depends if u live north or south of the border. The northern laws are different from that of the UK even though it is part of the UK (no political pun intended). The laws in the north are a pain in the ass as all firearms including air rifles , shotguns , rifles are held on a FAC, as far as I am aware the power output of air rifle does not matter (could be wrong) as it will be held on FAC anyway. One licence covers all, its just it could take months and months and months to get one I am unsure of the southern laws but Iam sure my learned friends from south of the border should be able to advise sean Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
My understanding is that both north and south require their version of the FAC to legally hold an air rifle. The best way to find out what those requirements are will be to contact your local police station and discuss your requirements with them. Quote Link to post
Timelord 0
We are all still guessing here so your best bet is to walk into you local police station and ask. Or seek advice from a solicitor, if this is too much trouble then go to the public library and look in the law books for Ireland there. The Internet is full of bulls**t opinions and even a google search does not reveal much. The layman on the street and or behind his keyboard/mouse and screen, unless he or she is legally trained, will be as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike in trying to find the correct answer for you..... Deker 3,478
.22LR shot shells should be considered....this is almost exactly what they were intended for but 20 yards is max range! Quote Link to post
