Guest gazza
i used a standard pike float attached directly onto the trace wit ha roach head and half body i was fishing a fast shallow strech though not deep ledger it mate with the biggest weight youve got use a pop up boom to keep your bait just off the bottom and your cooking. A standard float set up will be fine if theres not to much pace to the river, But if theres a lot of fload water about at the moment and if its running well you will be doing nothing but casting. I would recomend if theres a lot of colour to the river and pace use a float paternoster rig, This will present the bait staticly and give the pike a chance to find the bait. From my experience pike in coloured water feed by smell more than sight. Try any areas of slack water where they might be lying up wating for prey to EG on bends where eddys are created. They are unlikely to be in the main flow. If you dont want to use a float pat rig just try a standard running ledger rig with enough lead to hold bottom. Remmember rivers in flood are dangerous and fish carefully Tight line thepriest Quote Link to post
