mikeyboy 7 Posted September 12, 2008 Report Share Posted September 12, 2008 iv started to take my young bullx out on lamping trips now and he his going nicely learning and getting better all the time. one thing i am struggling with though is making him come back when the lamp goes out if he has not caught his quarry he seems to want to carry on and have mooch about. if he catches it he is ok. how do you train them to come back when lamp goes out or is it something he will just pick up as he goes out more. all advice will be much appreciated. atb mike Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Guest oldskool Posted September 13, 2008 Report Share Posted September 13, 2008 its very frustrating but the penny will fall at some stage... as soon as he comes back, if he's not knackered, get your hand on him and try and get him to spot another rabbit... eventually he will learn to return to ye because he knows your gonna have somethin else lined up for him... they are all a wee bit different mate, its just a matter of tryin to connect with him... i got an electric collar for the greyhound bitch because everytime i let her slip she was gone for half the night and scared off anything worth putting the light on... it worked really well and i dont need it now although she still gets a bit carried away when her bloods up... she's still a bit green on the lamp though because i've been concentratin on gettin her to catch foxes so its not all that often she gets to run Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Was well impressed recently when I was out with a lad who did exactly that with the lamp, to get his bitch to return he shone the light at his feet and back she came. So if anyone hears any reports of a big skinhead standing in the middle of his local park in the dark with a torch lighting his trainers up whistling his dog, don't worry ............... it's only me!
