Oh the irony!!

I spent most of yesterday convincing myself that Winchester subs are far to erratic to consistently headshot rabbits. The general consensus from most was that, although significantly more expensive, Eleys are the way forwards. I still had 750 Winnies left in the safe, wanted shot of them so to speak, so headed out on the golf course I look after for the second night in a row.

Usually I give it at least two days before walking the same spot, not sure why really, just thought they might be jumpy on a consecutive night. How wrong I was.

With a 5-10 mph breeze the noise of me trudging around the course was nicely disguised, but shooting remained simple enough. I decided that I would only take shots from 70 yards and in, only off a bi-pod and take as much time as I needed to guarantee a good trigger pull. Incredibly the bunnies were very cooperative.

The result, for me at least, was dramatic. 23 out of the 24 were clean head shots, one took it in the Gregory Peck, but perished quick enough. I fired a total of 26 rounds. The two misses were down to bad yardage assessment. Although, I think there's a rabbit out there with a nice new ear piercing judging by the sound one of the rounds made and the speed the bugger ran for home.

As an added little Brucie, I wandered over the top of one of the bunkers and was greeted by, what I think is a short-eared owl. It was 15' from me and behaved like a perfect model as I fumbled in my pocket for my mobile. It waited for me to take the photo then disappeared silently into the night.

I have had the cz for about three and a half months and last night was by far my most efficient yet. I know 24 rabbits isn't exactly a record, but what was really pleasing was the strike rate. The only down side was carrying the heavy little sods. Now I'm not sure whether to stick to the Winchesters or pay more for the Eleys, nice predicament to be in though!!

Cheers

Steve

Both my mate and myself use the win subs and find them the best we have tried and their reasonably priced too .Mate has the cz ,5 shot and i have the ruger 10/22.Regularly shoot rabbits out to just beyond the 100 yard mark ,when on form .

Confidence in ammo is a great boost and sows the seed for good shooting .Well done mate
