dytkos 17,803
I USE AN OLD FLEECE TOP NOW FOR ONE OF MY FERRETS HES NOT BEEN SO WELL COST ME OVER POUND IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS CHEST INFECTION SO STRAW OR HAY WOULDNT BE A GOOD IDEA OTHER FERRETS ARE IN SHREDDED PAPER THEY ARE DOING FINE CHEERS I use hay, straw and shredded paper, dependent on time of year/what I've got. All are OK providing you clean the chamber and change the bedding material regularly. I do this weekly. Also check the ferts for any problems when you handle them every day and there should be few problems. Cheers, D. Quote Link to post

Guest longslip
Must state that this has only ever happened the once in 20 year so was probably a freak accident...had an old fleece in as bedding a few years back now and was woke up at 3 a.m with an ear piercing squealing...ran outside bollock naked with a lamp to find the ferret had somehow getting one of her claws in the stitching of the fleece, must have twisted/rolled a few times and was proper snared by a single strand of cotton around her claw and toe, carried the ferret and fleece into the house and performed a delicate operation with a pair of fly-tying scissors to remove the cotton which had cut into the toe flesh.Nothing serious but stick to meadow hay now..no more fleeces,t-shirts,wooly jumpers etc Quote Link to post

topdogs 0
Hay and straw can be a breeding ground for paracities ect, but doesnt mean you cant use it. My girlfriend has got horses and uses straw she just puts a lime wash over the stable wall. Perhaps giving inside your shed a lime wash will keep them at bay? Quote Link to post
Guest on the hill
theres no need as straw and hay are fine to use Edited September 15, 2008 by on the hill Quote Link to post
Guest on the hill
the stuff you use for the horse is probably streight from the field so theres a much much gerater chance of bugs Edited September 15, 2008 by on the hill Quote Link to post
