robgriff1 4 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Share Posted September 11, 2008 Riggers, its personal choice mate, 16" or 20" whichever you prefer the look of. Most seem to go with the shorter barrel because even with the mod added its still easier to handle from a vehicle. I've got a .22 american with a 16" barrel & its really light & manoevreable. I've also got a hmr with a 20" (I think!) varmint barrel & its surprisingly heavy but its solid to shoot with & looks better sat in the custom stock than the 16" barrel would. let me know if you want some pics & I'll email 'em to you. This eating the barrels business is news to me, not had any problems, and know several people who run an assortment of CZ rimfires and they are all still on the original barrels!!! Barrel length, weight is down to your requirements! My main use for my rimfires and centrefires is hunting and I use light barrels for everything...suits my requirements best! Quote Link to post

My main use for my rimfires and centrefires is hunting and I use light barrels for everything...suits my requirements best! i agree with deker ,short barrels are better for shooting from vehicles,standard lenght barrels are slightly quieter than short ones using the same moderator.heavy barrels are no more accurate in the field than standard but are more consistent if a long string of shots are fired,as for cleaning every 15 shots this particular myth has been responsible for ruining more than one 17hmr rifle barrel that i know of.i dont recommend this to others but i have carried out an experiment with my cz452 17hmr.ihave not cleaned the barrel for 500rounds checking to see if its going "off" every 50 rounds,,last check it was putting 5 rounds into a fingernail sized group at 50 yards.good enough for me.the cz rimfires are superb value. you can spend twice the money but you wont get anything like twice the gun ,buy whatever style you like the look of ,you will not be disappointed.hope this helps ..greasemonkey Quote Link to post
