Coney 3
Evening everyone, As the title of the post say's have you ever had one of those hunting sessions where plenty of opportunity presents itself but you just can't get the shot?. It's been about x2 weeks now since I've been able to get out with work and the weather and all but after a particulary bad Monday at work I decided that if the weather broke at around 6ish I would make for the hills. Sure enough after I got changed and loaded up the car and got to one of our permissions it was starting to draw in, a plesent night about 2/3 hours shooting light left no wind and no rain ( just for a change ). Walked about 100 yards from the car and the first shot of the night presented itself about 30 yards up on an embankment and what do you know I missed it by about a foot. Cursing I continued on for about a mile when I saw about 5/6 rabbits enjoying the last few rays of sun just in front of a long hedgeline about 150 yards in front. By the time I had crept up the hedge line to about 40 yards all but x2 remained, dropped down for a prone shot using my bag as a rest lined the head shot up and promptly missed again sending the rabbits darting for cover, by this time the air was blue!!!! Started to get that feeling of doubt both with my kit and myself, had I suddenly gone cock-eyed since my last mooch or had my beloved rifle become "bent" since it's last outing?? Some target practice was in order......found some small stones placed them in some "shootable" positions at around 20/30 and 40 yards and started. It was no suprise that after about a dozen shots the HW100 was still as sweet as ever and it was down to yours truley for missing. Anyway a bit further up the field and this little beauty was enjoying an evening meal at about 35 yards so feeling more positive about myself raised the gun took aim and dropped it where it was eating......about time!! The next shot was the last of the evening, the HW had x2 shots left in the mag on the way back to the car when I spied this one up on it's back legs watching me come up the field, decided to try and "flank" it by going about 400 yards out of my way to get a shot. The walk was worth it by the time I got behind it all caution had gone to the wind and it was munching away happily until it got one right behind the lug from 40 yards....getting better at this shooting lark!! Finally I had to take this before it got too dark, a brace ready for the bag!!! Enjoy people and stay safe, Coney. Quote Link to post

Sea fishing? You get one decent bite, not long after your first cast, & that's it, you've got to stay there all fecking night, 'just in case' the fish comes back. It don't matter how much it rains, you've got a bucket full of lugworm, and there's got to be a fish out there swimming about looking for a feed, there's just got to be.....! No wonder I don't go much any more! Yep, we all have sessions like that Coney mate, probably more than we like to admit.... Quote Link to post
