lorelei0922 2
Hi everyone.. i'm looking for a little advice.. we're finding our jills pushing through the nets when they exit the holes... this isn't a problem in itself.. but the collar tangles .. they get caught up.. mess up the net... cause a commotion etc etc etc.. The hobs dont bother..they see the net and either nose around the edge or go back down anything i can do about this? the nets are those green lightweight ones? i think its 4oz? would using heavier nets help? or is it something the jills will have to suss? I'm fairly confident in SOME hedges we ferret that they wont be going far.. .but i do like the extra security of the locator... thanks for any advice! Quote Link to post
shephound 19
id say it might be the 4oz nets if anything hits them they tangle are the jills young i found the first few times i brought out my young jill she kept getting tangled now she goes through with no problems Quote Link to post
sniffer 167
Get some heavyer nets, u only have to look at th 4z things and they tangle up mate...also try some electrical tape around your collars ,u should do this any way to stop them getting wet down damp holes. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
get rid of the nets, and get a longnet, thats my way Quote Link to post
MikeTheDog 153
Pound to a penny it's the jill's first season!....They will soon get used to the nets, either picking their way through carefully or going under the edge. My hob will often wait in the entrance if the net is in the way. Or as stubby says, use longnets.. Sniffer, never taped my collars and never had problems with damp. Tape imo would just ad more bulk to the collar for snagging. Quote Link to post

Dan_Jones 7
Would tapeing the collar not work as it would make it more rounded .. sort of thing Quote Link to post
The one 8,473
Two of my older bitches pull the nets down clawing at them with there front paws proper pain in the ar*e when your working them two seems like you spend most of the day reseting nets Quote Link to post
rycalshaw 0
you could try some nets with slightly bigger meshes, then the small jills would probly slip through without disturbing it. Quote Link to post
Guest on the hill
trial and error i suppose, try out a few ideas n see witch one you like best Quote Link to post
