right im about to make myself look like a tw#t im only just getting in to digging only done bushing with terrier's so explain the talk to me bayer draw dog ect ect everybody start's somewere i dont know many boy's who do it so im mainly learning of here

hows things well a bayer is a terrier that holds the game in the pocket by barking at it dosent get bit much. a mixer holds the game in the pocket by barking and fighting with the game gets a fair few bites.a hard dog to me is a dog that meets the game and locks on and is mute.a drawing dog pulls the game from the pocket at the end of a dig hope this helps

The anti's will be rubbing their hands with that reply.

why

Why ????

First of all terrier work is hunting, not a fighting sport. A lot of you will find it hard to believe but the only type of terrier that can legally be worked ANYWHERE is a baying type.

"a mixer holds the game in the pocket by barking and fighting with the game gets a fair few bites". "locks on and is mute" and a draw dog is also illegal.

Let BigDan if he's not an anti (and I'm not saying he is or isn't) find out how a terrier works the same way as the rest of us. In the field.

not going to get in to an arguement with you neil i know you know your terriers but the man asked a question i just gave simple an answer as i could yes he will learn more out in the field but it helps him know the diffrents in the way terriers work before he gose out

fuk me lads we was all in this situation at one time asking local terriermen how to go about it proper theres to many arse holes around at the mo with the digging game i always help people out that are really into it like got local lad other day dog and set him up with sum nets spades and even gave him one of my mk3 boxs all he had to do was get a collar now he's out with me most times if he is really intrested in terriers what you think he going to feel like when people start calling people anti's not good lads i aint saying i am the best i now i aint im only 22 and been digging since i was 10 with the old man at the local hunt with the head terrierman just help the new lads out that are really willing to get into the sport silenthunter.....

Not looking for an arguement. The anti's are reading these websites as much as the hunters and the folk who think they're hunters. Close ups of wounds and digs is what they want. Those who put up these pictures and macho replys have nothing to loose. They are not terrier men in the first place.

As for replying to novices (and I know they are here too) answer them with care. The word "fighting" should never be used when describing terrier work.

Unless your describing meeting an anti LOL.

To give advice to an novice give it in a professional manner. Like you would an apprentice. Give them the advice like they should go on.

I'm in the same boat as Bigdan, don't know any terriermen, don't even know anyone who knows any! so this site is about my only source of info. I understand what you're saying about being careful Neil Cooney, but also I think it makes no difference to the anti's anyway cause if they don't find what they're after here they';ll just find it somewhere else or make it up!! Not after an argument with anyone either ( as i know feck all about digging anyway) Cheers

Making up lies is one thing but close ups of bottom jaws, lurchers arses sticking up out of a dig and video footage of terriers/lurchers/strongdogs on top is all hard evidence. But as I've said before the pretenders have nothing to loose.

Just look at some of the above posts agreeing that we should say what we want ,when we want. These same lads never contribute good posts.

Last week there were fools putting up pictures of foxes (cubs) blasted apart with high powered rifles on the shooting forums.

I got the immpression these same fools were new to the game.

The fact is lads that those that are regularly in the field know what a terrier does under the ground, we know what a dig looks like. We don't have to rush home after a dig to be the first to get our pictures up.

The fact is that we in the terrier and lurcher fraternity are at the bottom of the ladder as to what field sports will be first to go. But that wont bother the fools. They'll have a different "hobby" next year anyway.

We need to get our act together and IMO the inter-net is doing 99% of the damage. It can be a great place to be but as Dave Harcombe once said, "a fools paradise".

neil cooney why you not have a go at p***y when he posted picts of his dogs you big blouse.

Thuggy my comments regarding keeping our house in order are always aimed at anyone who brings hunting into direpute.

My remarks to Top Terriermans answer meant that IMO he could have worded it better and not mentioned fighting. Also I have no problem whatsoever in a novice asking questions. I do however think that the inter-net is not the place to learn terrier work.

I made a compliment on another topic to Smashers pictures of a dig and his JRT Smasher. I find nothing wrong with a picture of a hole with someone digging or of a terrier being held. That is, after all ,what we do.

However when I see pictures of lurchers drawing or terriers working foxes on top I get annoyed. That is something most of us don't do.

Regarding Pikeys pictures, I'm not sure what ones you mean as I don't look at every topic but since you brought them up, is it you that doesn't like them.

And Thuggy, you wouldn't call me names to my face, a very easy thing to do behind a handle and a computer.

I might call some fools and messers but my handle is also my real name.

theres nothing wrong with telling him what he needs to know mate its not illegal telling someone, what is illegal is doing it, well the hard dog bit, drawing dog bit, and mixer bit is illegal yes but not answering questions mate
