swanseajack 227
What would your defintion of a Good Bedlington be... Size, conformation, coat, temperament, working style Part A. In your eyes a perfect Bedlington Size = Conformation = Coat = Temperament= Working Style= Part B. What faults do you see in the Bedlington... as long as it's worker to worker it don't matter Yeah! we know that, but I'm asking what would be your perfect Bedlington, what do you look for when looking for the perfect dog ??? Some pics, and descriptions of dogs you've had in the past or now would be good ?? This is aimed at people who have or have had Bedlingtons and are a fan of them.. the rest of you I'm starting a new thread for your particular breed... Quote Link to post

swanseajack 227
SJ what is your view mate? Ideal size 14/16" spannable, narrow in the chest, good bit of length in the body, strong head and jaw and most importantly big strong teeth, coat good strong outer with an inner softer coat to keep em warm, (haven't seen one yet) temperament wise they should be laid back, not fussy or gassy, not aggresive with anything at all, butter wouldn't melt in their mouth type, sleep with one eye open and always thinking... working style should be the exact opposite of laid back, busy with their noses, looking all the time, when they meet their quarry it should always be up and at em, pushing for a bolt or killing and drawing... Faults Ive personally had is they have been on the small side or been to big it's difficult to get a happy medium, have snipey heads, shite coat, and some just didnt make the grade... Pic of a nice type owned by myself, though the pic of him is at a ripe old age and not in his prime.. Pic of Milly (if you haven't seen it before) Good bitch, breed fault: barrell chested.. Tango, from a few years back... Quote Link to post
TOPPER 1,809
my ideal bedlington: size 13-15 inch good strong head with good jaw line, coat wise a good thick coat of 2 layers pref must be spanable with good around bone stucture, must have a good nose and use it , temperment must be laid back but all gun ho when working must not give an inch and must be prepared to take the fight on when the need arises. iam not far away with my dog Ted hes 13in tts solid strong dog but a bit big in the chest but i supose we cant have everything hes a good earth dog and work his quarry well and thats what matters to me Quote Link to post
david2363 42
13" and it probably ain't a Bedlington !! * 14"- 15" for bitches * 15" - 17" for dogs I wouldn't take a small one at the expense of a decent head and jaw. Spannable would be great, but lets not forget that this (in pure form) was never meant to be an out and out earth dog. And therefore is generally a larger unit than your average Lakie or Russel type. A good coat is a must for me - and its no coincidence that the darker the dog, the better the coat. But with that said, even the best Beddy coat is shite compared to his Lakie,Patt, Border cousins. A laid back personality is right for me, my missus said my Beddy mirrors my personality - he's either very placid or very pissed off, depending on the circumstances. I couldn't bear to own a gassy, yappy, aggressive fighter of a dog, but at the same time, its reassuring to know that my Beddy could hold his own against most of the brawlers. When it comes to nose, I don't think there is an equal, I reckon some good working Beddies could give some gundogs a run for their money. * Working style - Well it would seem to be a waste of all that power and athleticism if the dog isn't given a chance to be matched against something of equal size and with pointy teeth. (sadly most so called working Bedlingtons are never given this chance). But the ones that do should not be shy to get up close with the game and not be a stand 2 foot back merchant. Thats my Bedlington Utopia. Now back to the real world. Quote Link to post
