nuv 2
I've never found the short muzzle a problem; many dogs turn their heads slightly to one side when head to head and therefore they are at no more a disadvantage than any other breed. I see the 'slow to enter' clause is being cited again. In all the years I've had Borders, I've found they enter or they dont, much like other breeds. It seems many people contrast Borders but don't compare. Quote Link to post
desertdog 149
i dont know many other lads who work borders, this is just my account, about twenty years ago my old mate had a dog, dont know he,s blood lines, and did,nt start work till he was 14month and smashed every fox he encountererd, i also knew a fella from woburn that kept nothing but borders and he said they were all or nothing, as the same with other terriers their all different, and they were used for diggng the other fella before that was banned. [/quotally ive seen a few borders work. most terriers ive owned or seen working foxes take the worst of the damage mid to back of there muzzle. if they have any go in em. with regular work the damage tends to be concentrated in that area. borders however take a lot of damage to the back of the muzzle. and often around the eyes and even above the eyes. this is only going on the borders ive seen worked. and they were very pushy dogs . if i was a fan of the working border i would definately be looking at that. although it may spoil them for showing it may help them workwise Quote Link to post
