Mr_Logic 5
OK, Out at Bisley today, shots wandered and then went off the page completely. Was zeroing so wasn't alarmed initially, after they left the target I checked the mod and it was loose. Got home and it looks like this: If this were the barrel crown I know I'm screwed. But, given the much slower moving gas out of the front of a moderator, how much will this throw accuracy? It had certainly seemed to settle down again, but I've seen the rifle do better in the past. Am I screwed? Do I need a new mod? I'm guessing yes, but hopefully I can get away with it! Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
I suppose it all depends on how acceptable the groups are Mr L. How wide were they after you tightened the Mod? You could always take the Mod off and shoot with Ear Protectors for the time being. I would think it would throw accuracy a touch as the Gas isn't being thrown out equally. SNAP SHOT 194
Had you got the bushing screwed in, or how did this happen as the mod was off centre, did you not hear the ding so to speak of the bullet hitting the moderator? i'd say it should be ok but it will always linger in the back of your mind about accuracy, due to the fact of the damage.....good luck with it..... Mr_Logic 5
I didn't hear a thing as I had muffs on because of the noisy buggers next door with their muzzle brakes on! The mod was a bit loose, it must have been a fraction and then worked itself looser Quote Link to post
dwighet 1
Could the hole be reamed out just enough so that it is symmetric again? It might be worth a go before you bin it... Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
Could the hole be reamed out just enough so that it is symmetric again? It might be worth a go before you bin it... Would that not make it louder? Such as a mod for a larger calibre going on a smaller calibre rifle. With anything shooting related I would replace if not entirely happy to use it. Quote Link to post

I`d say it possibly would John. Im no expert on mods, actually im no expert on anything But i guess it also depends on how many baffles were damaged insiside the mod aswell. Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
Veryt rue Dwighet, the baffles would also have to be enlarged wouldn't they, I'd not taken that into consideration, duh me! Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Could the hole be reamed out just enough so that it is symmetric again? It might be worth a go before you bin it... I was thinking the same thing, something akin to re-crowning a barrel? I'm not sure about the loudness, and if that's the last baffle I can see in the shot, it doesn't look damaged. shortshot 0
A .30 calibre mod. works equally well on a 243. So just tidy the end with an 8mm? drill. A 90% effective moderator is a better option than buying a replacement.imo. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Flippen 'ek.....perhaps a word with Jackson Rifles (the importer/distributor) to see if they have any suggestions!! Edited September 9, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
I take it you had to use FMJ at Bisley. If that happened with thin jacketed hunting ammo wouldn't it totally knacker the bullet and have the thing going anywhere? Mods arn't cheep but like Deker says i'd get a decent gunsmith to have a butchers at it before getting you Black n' Decker out. What mod is it out of curiosity? Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
ASE S5. They were with ballistic tip ammo, no rules against expanding at Bisley Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
Fair play, i heard Bisley had changed the rules and guess i just assumed the ammo class was amended as well... more fool me. Hope the mod can be fixed mate... the ASE's are pretty top end. Quote Link to post
