does the all rounder exist????my oppinion is no,anyway not to an experianced lurcher man/womens standard, when i was a younger man we used to see adverts for all rounders pups and adults but when we saw this great title ;););) it was always followed by a great price always beyond my financial situation :(:(:( so of coarse i was always left with the home bred stuff of the family :):):) another advert in the local rags when advertising lurchers and pups for sale was H,J,K,C also these arnt seen much these days either are more i dont buy papers and mags that sell lurchers so there fore dont really know :hmm::hmm::hmm: as we all know :laugh: i do a bit of braggin about my wee dogs mainly in good faith and humour but no way would i call them all rounders,a dog that is close would be lady are should i say the closest in my kennels.............the brindle she would do deer and fox pre ban but no were near as good as a bull cross are a purpose bred dog she will catch rabbit on the lamp very well and bolted rabbits in the day with the ferrets excellant but wont mark as good as a lot of ferreters dogs are bush like a certain few lurchers entering thick nettles after its quarry, she will retreave fur and feather to a gun and she is 100%around any livestock, but is no way an all rounder, hares well she could catch the odd ones as good as any half cross but she isnt match potential by anyones standards anyway some very good replys and thanks for ignoring levellers request to not post on here, due to another post being similar to this hes a complete messer

Fur&feather catching,long&gate-netting,ferreting,lamping,daytime coursing specialist?Guess whats rarer than the actual fabled canine itself?Someone with the skill, time, and patience to train the beast  I dont think your going to get one single person on here who will claim to have such a legend living in their kennels today :whistling:

With the advent of lamping long-netting wasnt as popular though its undergoing a resurgence of interest with 'Tinternet and quick-set systems, but nocturnal netting requires a dog that shepherds and hunts up,lamping is the total opposite,point-and-shoot,without doing an impersonation of one of Gordy Browns cabinet, and using one word instead of ten anyone care to explain for thickos like myself how even a MENSA registered canine understands the complexities of each task on a given night :hmm: Your netting one night and the creature uses its olfactory senses, next night artificial-light and the legendary "All-rounder" differentiates? :o

I'm not a complete messer Rick that's unfair I go lamping twice a year with my old Lurcher and once back in 1988 I even had a day out with a terrierman so that's not fair calling me a complete messer

dont no bout that but i lived off mine and my dogs wits for meny years,i still enjoy long netting gate netting, lamping, daytime.night time courseing, dogs even CAUGHT FISH!! dont see whats so hard bout training a dog to do all those things?its a matter of spending enough time with them and imo collie blood gives them a natural head start.and c,w,if a dog is stock broken it was f**k all good to me at one time, food is food, and we all need to eat,i had little need for money when i lived contently off the land travalling round the country with my lot :victory:

All-rounders do exist, but are like gold dust....

I've seen one, I didn't own him, and the dog was "a true all-rounder"

I didn't really realise how good the dog was until he had died, he was never bred from, as there was a lack of good enough bitches around, a crying shame...

A lot of people do not need a "true all-rounder" simply because everybody has there own preferences on game they run and the land they run on, and the majority stick to one thing.

Personally I could do with an all-rounder, but I just don't think I’ll find one very quickly! :whistling:

Ooty,if you have had a single dog that mastered every-single one of those tasks then I take my hat off to you, your a better man than me Gunga-din,and I have never seen fish-coursing :icon_eek:

why would an all round lurcher need to take fox or course a hare [catch a hare yes] a lurcher is meant to provide food for the pot & to be an all rounder that is all it should be required to do catching all sorts of fur & feather [the fin is a bonus] coursing is sport & foxing is pest control therefor should not be included.jmo ATB Pritch
