Collies?

Recommended Posts

makes sense, the few collies i've seen on the farms and ranches here are hard working. most guys here use the aussie shepherds or blue heelers though. are there particular types of collie that are better than others, or does it come down the the individual animal?

my border collie is so trainable, its actually quite amazing. she WILL NOT pick up game AT ALL though, she is proper welsh sheepdog worker - worker, just wondered if this would be a breeding thing or just a funny quirk of hers ? when she gets near a rabbit/fox/dear/badger/hare/pheasant etc etc she just barks and bounces, funny to watch, but bloody anoying! you cant fail them for intelligence or agility, shame shes spayed

IF YOU WERE LOOKING FOR A GOOD COLLIE STUD DOG FOR A GREYHOUND BITCH WHERE WOULD YOU GO. WHAT WOULD YOU LOOK FOR SIZE TYPE TEMPERAMENT. ARE THE OBEDIENCE AGILITY COMPETITON TYPE WORTH CONSIDERING?? ARE THERE ADVANTAGES IN OTHER HERDING TYPES

If i were to make a cross id use a farm working collie because he is a proven worker :big_boss: some are no more than scatty pets tho the stamina may still be there, but definatly not the show version :whistling:

Yeah deff a good farm reared collie...border or beardie! size wise it dont really matter imo as it will even out in the x with the grey the only disadvantage I could see in the other herding types is the majority of them are show dogs...there's some guys in here using Australian cattle dogs so maybe they can advise you better on that particular x

IMO you would be better off using a working farm dog or a top level working trial dog, they are very different to the agility/obedience dogs.
