MarcusOvDarlo 0
Well some people on here seem to think ( in there opinions ) that you have to have good bloodlines in a lurcher to make it a good worker. IMO ( in my opinon ) i think thats wrong, As long as you bring a lurcher up well then it should have no problem working... but it would give you a advantage if yyou had a dog out of good lines. So... Theres my opinion. Whats yours? Edited September 5, 2008 by MarcusOvDarlo
BlueCoyote 0
i agree to a point. any dog can be great if the trainer knows what he's doing. but the lines thing i believe is a way some people predict the dogs ability and stamina.. i still say its a gamble. speedlamper 0
its a combination of both i'd say, a top line with an idiot isnt going to achieve anything, if you put more time in you'll get a better worker

thurso jack 3
YOU CANT BREED A DERBY WINNER OUT OF A DONKEY. BREED FROM THE BEST, CULL THE REST.
Malt 379
Of course the lines make a difference. All dogs have the same traits & instincts, but they're stronger in some dogs than they are in others. I agree that training & conditioning can get you so far, but if you give a decent dog handler two dogs from two different lines, one good & one not so good, at the end do you think the two dogs will be equal? True the not so good one would probably be shit hot compared to a novice's attempt with a dog from the good line, but a decent dogman would know how to get the extra 10-20% from the dog with better breeding. Lines aren't everything, but they do make a difference IMO.

shinyspade 2
most lurchers with a good bit of running dog in them will do a decent enough job . however if the lurch is tested to a greater degree ie. pushed that bit harder and made to graft . the crackes will show. also if the dog is a specialist working other things than rabbits. breeding is essential.
