pigeonphill 69
ive always said a good ferret is worth its weight in gold, but so many are just used and abused as they are so easy to get hold of and cheap to buy. to the humble ferret Quote Link to post
MikeTheDog 153
That was a great tribute Mike: I must confess to feeling quite a bit of affection for my ferrets, and I'm gutted when one goes. One of my best was simply called Mother: she was great with her kits LOL. She did me well for quite a few years, and seldom laid up, though killed quite a few as she got older: you had to be quick with the mark if you wanted to dig to them cos she'd be off and killing the next! A fault maybe, but she was a great little worker. Not a fault imo skycat, that's what ferrets do in reality, we just prefer them to chase the buggers into the net. One reason why I work smallish jills, less likely to kill when they catch and more chance of the rabbit getting away to bolt. The hob ferret tends to be a more vicious worker imo, chase catch and kill! But, they do tend to move on pretty sharpish for the next coney, blood lust like a fox..lol Quote Link to post
will.f11 24
totally agree mate and Im sorry about your jill. My dad told me that i had to do at least 3 seasons ferreting with friends before I was allowed to have my own ferrets. It was a very good Idea as i feel i have a fairly good knowledge of ferrets and agree that you should get to know the sport before you buy your own animals. I cant wait to start my first season with MY very own ferrets. I have had all summer to get to know and trust them and I think we will make a great team. Spot on mate Will.f11 Quote Link to post

Guest The Big Fish
Sorry to hear about your jill that you lost Mike, i remember you saying last year how you would miss her when she was gone! I know myself that when it comes down to the "crunch" you always select the ones that can DO THE JOB. I am lucky enought to own several workers that really are workers, one or two in particular are NOT FOR SALE and will spend their days here and doing what they are supposed to be doing Quote Link to post
Guest on the hill
quite alot of people consider a ferret to be a tool, i think its oldskool thinking maybe....if the ferrets dont meet the standard fast there not worth the food and things like that and some people just dont care sadly Quote Link to post
fireman 10,860
Well said mate,i wonder how many dogs would take on a rat the same size as them or hang on to a rear end that kicks like a mule?.I myself had my favourite ferret die last week and choked me up it did, have a daughter that is showing promise so his blood lives on.Hate the way the ferret is looked upon as a cheap life and their so easy to look after as well.I had some kits for sale this year and even in this day and age when i said they were flesh fed, some k**bhead who had phoned said"don't that just make them bite"i put him right and still didn't let him have one. Guest on the hill
lol the tubes you get nowerdays two rights you toled em to bog off!! Quote Link to post
will.f11 24
i agree that they are treated as disposable. all mine are named. as I think why should a dog be named and not a ferret. they both work, in my opinion there aint no ferreting dog without the ferret! my little sis is always changing there names but i can always tell between them and they are all called something! although my new one is nameless as i cant spot him out between him and another kit i have Quote Link to post
Guest on the hill
init.....without a ferret theres no ferreting forum lol..............or ferreting for that matter, personally i love the little nutters BUT if i have a problem ferret and there is no other option i WILL despatch it.
