mole catcher 1
[quote oh ma da geein me the dollar fur a dug SAY WAHT??? Ive been fishing the rivers for carp this year and not doing to bad on home made boilies, last session i had 18 takes and landed 15, biggest being a 12.5 common. not a massive fish but on a river they dont half fight. All the boilies i make are made from simply ingrediants bought from shops in town, not one coming from a tackle shop and cost about £3 to make 2-3kgs of boilies. just two of many caught on home mades perhaps im just tight but i make all my own rigs aswell Maty one important thing to remember is not to over do the flavourings as a fishes sence of smell is far better than ours, and dont fall into the trap of adding to many flavours at once, this is counter productive as ive found out. let us know how you get on with the home mades Edited September 4, 2008 by mole catcher Quote Link to post
marky r 25
lol at mole catcher i think he means a dollar fur a type of fly i think dug means he giving it a try when i used to match fish carp fishing seemed too complicatyed to me all the diffrent rigs and stuff the only carp iv caught on a hair rig are on commercial carp water with boilies cat meat or pellet or on the method feeder. mole catcher 1
i use the hair rig with a sliding hair in a blow back fashion to form an anti ejection rig as im fishing the rivers. and seeing as these fish have never been caught before they are very weary of baits and such like so they suck in and blow out food stuffs a few time before swollowing it. You say carp fishing is too complicated, only because most carpers have fallen into the trap of believing what the tackle manifactures tell them in the magizines, lets face it they have brainwashed us for years that a carp has such brains and will learn from what it sees and feels and that a carp can sence whats not natural and then we go catch them on fake bits of plastic baits, wheres the reasoning in that? Lets face it, as long as we keep buying the gear they will keep selling it. And if we believe that to catch a carp we need all this gear it keeps them in business. If we were to find out we dont need all these fancy baits where would the bait and tackle companies be? Thanks for the interpritation Quote Link to post
mackem 26,616
Tackle-tarts..........The majority of fishing equipment is designed to catch anglers first, fish second,we all seccumb to the allure of shiny-things and new-toys But to be honest a good angler with basics often catches more than a tackle-tart Quote Link to post
maty j 6
I'll look into getting some glug. It's 12 quid on ebay and only 10 or so In the shop so will check there one day. As for not using comercial products MC, I wouldn't know were to start so will just keep It simple for now. Anyone used these http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Liquid-Baits Look like some good prices. Whats the bird seed put in the boilies for then? Just extra flavour, smell?? All that looks a bit complicated LG and more to the point, fecking expensive! Edited September 4, 2008 by maty j Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Your probably right M but theres that many nuisance fish In this lake infact all the pools on this fishery. You can chuck in a big peice of meat and they will just keep picking It away and you usually end up fowl hooking one. Boilies are the only thing they don't go for yet still hoover up the ground mix and suspended. The fella said the enviroment agency were coming to catch them up just leaving the bigger carp, tench, roach, rudd etc in. Wasn't you was It The flavourings on that ebay shop seem to be a good price so I'll probably just get a couple off there and see how I get on. Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
The best summer glug i have ever used is one i made myself, and dead cheap as well. you will need 1, A tin of pineapple rings in syrip 2, A tin of golden syrip Boil the pineapple rings in their own syrip till nice and soft, once soft blend to a mushy pulp, the finer the better. Pour golden syrip into a container with enough space to add a little boiling water. Stir the golden syrip and boiling water till nice a runny and add the mushed pineapple rings and sryip and give a good mixing. Allow to cool and store in a container out of direct daylight. WARNING. you must remove the lid every now and then to allow the gasses to escape as there is a fermentation going on and the container may split if left unchecked. The above glug as you call it has workde as a dip for me on many hook baits and costs about £2 and as we all know, carp like pineapple in the warmer months Mackem, thats what i was trying to say in my last post, catching the angler rather than the fish. As for being a tackle tart far from it, a tart maybe but that as they say is another story Edited September 4, 2008 by mole catcher Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Cheers MC. Sounds good. I take It I could just use that glug then to flavour my base mix. I've not long ago bought some pineapple richworth boilies (never caught on them, I even had them out the other day, changed to tutti fruiti and caught!) so once I have ran out of these I'll get some made up What are the usual flavours to use In the different seasons. You mentioned pineapple when It's warm so what about Autumn etc as were approaching now? I usually use corn or meat and only just started using boilies so havn't a clue. Quote Link to post

The anchoveys are about 70p the squid is £1.99/kg frozen of which you only need two in a six egg mix, the fruit flavor is about I don't know but a tub or pot lasts for ages as you only need a little, same with flavor enhancer and fish meal is about £18 for 12.5kg you need not add green lip mussel extract. It all works out with eggs around £3 ish per kilo which is not a lot maybe less. Bird seed is a base mix. Quote Link to post

No mate, though we were once mistaken for environmental-agency workers when using "Alternative" fishing methods on a particularly sensitive stretch of water, discretion was the better part of valour and we beat a hasty though dignified retreat soon after JOE was challenged to produce his EA card Quote Link to post
maty j 6
I remember you telling me about that M. All part of the fun I've just ordered 3 flavourings so will have a go at making them when I get It and may give them a try LG too. I've got some other liquid bait stuff in the tackle box. Little plastic sachets of oil, really fishy flavoured so will probably try them at some point too. I'll let you know how I get on. Quote Link to post
