Kye 77
Hi Guys,.. We do most of our lamping out the Suburu, but sometimes we like to have a wonder when in the smaller fields etc.. I have a LazerLight, and when Ratkillah came over to visit, he very kindly fetched me over a 12V battery, the big one that is supposed to last 10hrs. Its never been left "run-down" and i have left it on charge (with a converter, because of the difference in plug sockets over here in the States!) for a few days, more than enough to fully charge. But when i use the lamp in the vehicle, it is on and off, like lighting, you turn it on, and bang, instant 1million candlepower...but with the battery, there is a delay, of a second, for the light to turn on, and to turn off...its almost like a dimmer switch, as opposed to a 'switch' if you get my meaning? Why is this?...i havent lamped with a battery pack for years now, and i cant remember if this is normal, although i remember it happeneing when the lamp battery is running low etc!...we use the vehical most of the time, because of the HUGE amount of land we have to travel to get the various game we hunt, but its handy having a battery pack...we need the bigger battery because over here it can mean life or death if you run outta battery!..lol. You dont wanna be lamping in WY, and run outta beam, and the nearest house is 50 miles away, and its -15F...not good! Any advice or idea to whats going on?...many thanks. J.. Quote Link to post
rolly 0
Kye, Don't know what to tell ya other than mine does the same thing. Fade in and fade out when you use the battery power. Be careful lamping here in the states. I don't think you can spotlight anywhere in the US, except when calling predators like fox, coyotes, etc. Not sure if you can or can't, but I know a lot of folks do it. I wouldn't tell anybody you know about it. What a you lamping? Jackrabbits and coyotes? Quote Link to post
Kye 77
Hi Rolly,.. Yeah, sounds like you are having the same problem im having,.. Re: The laws on taking game with lights are limited to dogs, and once the game is treed, THEN you can use the lamp....which is what we do...there are many states and countys in america that you ARE allowed to lamp, mostly the western states,....you can lamp in NV and WY etc.... We are always careful to obey the laws in regard to the hunting of game with dogs, and although there are a few grey areas, we stay well within the law, at ALL times...thanks for the heads up though... Guest smashygadge
if its the lamp im thinking of if you look at the bottom of the handle the wire will be split if not their inside .it used to do that on mine all the time and thats why when you move the lamp it flickers as tho a loos connection when wires retouch .its not the battery .if you take a carfull look you will see where the wire has broke Quote Link to post
victor 10
here is my kit, it didnt cost me anny thing and it's good enuff for 5 houors Quote Link to post

Seems like the battery isn't right. The lamp is 100% bright and switches immediately on when plugged into a normal cig lighter in the subaru. It's like the battery isn't strong enough to run the full candlepower and has a delay when the lamp is switched on when plugged into it. Maybe the converter plug isn't allowing a full charge or something? Hope Kye doesn't mind me chiming in, but I've seen it do it so thought I explain again in response to your post. Quote Link to post

Guest smashygadge
Yeah mate, a Deben charger...it came with the battery pack?...should i be using another? J.. posative it is set to 12v? on that no that should be fine. what sort of converter you using? also what volt are us car batterys? in the us i no theirs some differeence in your output in house wiring aint their maybe just kicking less power to the charger than required. let us no Quote Link to post
Kye 77
I wouldnt know to be honest mate, i know the house mains is less over here!?...maybe FR would be able to tell you?...the converter is just an old small grey plug type job that the wife had laying about...is there a special one i should get mate?...i will give FR a call and ask him to post some info on american stuff..thanks for your time mate. J.. well if your using the simple plug covertor. it will be sending less output to your battery charger . now then if your car batterys are 12v over their just get a normal slow 12v american charger that should sort the job out. as the uk one is to be powered by 240v as in the us it is less. i used to use an american computer here and i needed to run that of a big convertor to drop the power. im sure if you look at some american hunting shops they will have one thats suited to the,u.s. plug socket and will have the correct amp inside the charger to give correct output to the battery,as us wont ,as of the lower rate over their Quote Link to post
F.R. 2
Car is 12V, house power is 110v unless on heavy equip then 220v. I've got a 12 volt charger for ATV/car batteries etc. so we can try a trickle charge on the battery and see if that does it. Otherwise Kye has a Deben doorstop..... Quote Link to post
F.R. 2
Charged it on a 12V car battery charger and problem solved. Thanks SG for your advice. Quote Link to post
