ultimathule 29
How do you guys keep your ferrets nails from getting too long? Do you cut them down with dog nail clippers or what? My twos nails look quite long and would have a bash trimming them myself but think it would just stress out the animals who are only just getting used to me? Sure you guys dont take them to the vets do you? Cheers. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
no, simply cut them with nail clippers, its a 2 minute job and wont stress the ferret out, a blob of ferret malt paste on the worktop, will keep them happy while you do the biz Quote Link to post
Coatesy900 0
If you are keeping them in a hutch with a wooden floor, stick a slab of concrete or a slate or something in there. When they walk on it it will keep their nails shorter. Mine are kept on a completely concrete floor anyways so clipping doesnt really need to be done at all. Quote Link to post
Rhodey 96
Mine are kept on concrete there backs ones are fine the concrete is doing the job there but the front ones are quite long. Quote Link to post
The one 8,503
During the summer i get my son to hold them and i clip them with our nail clippers but i wouldn't be tempted to cut them back much now . Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,638
clip them while they climb the mesh on your cage . mine are also on concreate, and the court is 4 foot high , wich they climb and then slide down . i belive this helps as well. so i dont need to clip mine. Quote Link to post

Guest on the hill
ive never seen the need to clip there nails! why do you lot do it?? is it so it cant hold onto rabbits aswell or for health reasons? just curious because ive never seen it as a problem.....well apart from the scratches on the wrists when holding one!!!! Quasar 1
Also make sure you cut the nails the right way. which is Horizontally. as this give a straight flat edge and comfortable for the ferret. if you cut down vertically, you are actually creating a narrow point going down and can be uncomfortable as more pressure is put on that point. I hope this helps. Quote Link to post
