tote 856
Two books that are well worth reading are,-Training Spaniels, and Gundogs Their Learning Chain, both are by Joe Irving. You should be able to get them in your local library.

threbb 0
make sure if you want it to hunt that you let it discover hunting before you start formal training otherwise you may curb its desire for good.

sandymere 8,263
good on you for bothering to train your dog as many don't these days at least not to any decent standard. Don't worry a well bred pup will retain it's hunting drive irrespective of training. The only difference is that it's entry to quarry will be slightly more under control if trained prior to and during it's introduction to the field. Good luck s

Never understood why anyone would hunt a dog before they trained it. Unless of course they wanted to make it harder to train.
