I'm looking to get some insurance so that i can try and get some of my own permision. The thing is i'm torn between BASC which i've heard is the best but the only problem is it's the most expensive at £62? or the BASA which is the cheapest at £19.95 but this only covers you for airguns i believe? then theres the SACS which looks very good at £22 i think for THL members! The thing is i really am only hunting with airguns at the moment but i am considering getting a working terrier soon (not 100% yet). What do you guys think i should go for? Also i have a irish staff (long legged staffy) would the liability insurance with basc cover me if say the dog was to be taken by police for being "type"? just a thought but i remember someone having their dogs taken off them for being "pitbull type" and a company helping to fight the case and i'm not sure if it was BASC? any way let me know your thoughts guys and gals :big_boss:

Hi Kris, It's Reeco of the BSA site, Look at what the legal assistance all of the organisations offer you and also the cover, there was a thread on the BBS a couple of weeks ago, about an airgunner who was totally legal with permission and a legal air rifle, some old busy body of a woman rang the police, they turned up confiscated the rifle took it for testing, the fella they took it off had shall we say a couple of sleepless nights, he got his gun back and everything worked out well for him, he was not a member of BASC, but if he was they would have fought his corner.

I am a full BASC member, granted it's not cheap but in my humble opinion it's the best option to cater for all my needs, take your time to think it through. Good Luck Mate. ATB. Reeco

PS give BASC and the others a bell, and ask them to answer your questions, I can only speak about BASC, everytime I have spoken to them they have been very helpful.

SACS All the way.As a member of the hunting life full membership of SACS will cost you £22 a year and if you happen to be under 18 years of age its completely free.Insurance cover is on a par with the other organisations, and any insurance claims will dealt with by the insurance company and not scrutinised by the organisation first (quicker and easier claims process).SACS and there legal team will also fight your case in any dispute.Best of all SACS will cover you whilst participating in ANY recognised country sport, unlike some of the other organisations.
