Bedlington Dog at stud

Recommended Posts

:whistling: Here's a question for all of you Lurcher owners whether you're into Bedlingtons or not... ?? :whistling:

Not so much contraversial as it may sound, but will probably rock the boat..

Which would you use as a stud for your bitch and why ??

A. An under 16" dog that has regularly been dug too, tried and tested as it were...

B. An over 16" dog that works the bush to varying degrees and may be able to catch the odd rabbit or two, never been tried for it's pluck or working ability as it's way to big to get to ground...

My take on it is this, years back when there were a few 'good bedlingtons' about, they were used to put some fire into the genepool to produce quality lurchers..

p.s. I haven't got a dog that is suitable for breeding lurchers, it's just a hypothetical question... :tongue2:

Clever question Jack,id say the first option is the way to go,but only because the 2nd option was untested. On the subject of "nose" a few folk on here will vouch for the nose on my beddyxwhippet bitch, she amaze's me at times ,and one of my mates reckons she half hound :clapper: On the subject of bite power, one of my black dogs has a fierce pair of jaws on him and i be very impressed if a Beddy could better it.

SJ, Maybe there is a third option..... A Bedlington which is taller than the norm for an out and out earthdog, but who still has the minerals to tackle the ginger ones when the chance comes, above and below ground.

Best of both worlds really, hopefully passing that pluck on to the lurcher progeny

Especially, with amount of lurcher lads who want to hunt fox with their dogs.

this would be the option that i would go for but if i had to chose from the other options i would go for option the earth dog as it has proven that it has gutts. the other one could be a better dog if it had the chance to catch fox above ground or drawing from sets but you would never know so it is a chance that i would rather not take.
