Tail Docking

Hello All

 

My Patterdale bitch has just given birth to 6 cracking pups. Trouble is she won`t let me go anywhere near them. I was going to take them to get their tails docked tomorrow. I`am a bit concerned about how she will react when i take them off her, the vets is a good 45 minute drive there and back.

Have breed pups before and never come across a bitch like this. She won`t even leave the whelping box.

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I`ll get some picks of the pups posted shortly.

Thanks again for all the great advice, had the tails docked yesterday everything went ok. The bitch wasn`t so bad, she seen her leader and thought she was off hunting.

I think it took longer to fill the paperwork in than what it did to have the tails docked and microchipped.

good idea but my vet docks from 3 days upto 5 days she might not be as interested at 5 days

Thanks for the advice I`ll do just that. Don`t mind letting the bitch know who`s the boss. Just concerned about her reaction with the pups.

You have to take her with you in any case, as the vet has to see the dam with the pups but you will need someone with you to take her out of the room whilst the docking is carried out.
