mackem 29,013
These are just basic models the guys working on the seaweed-farms get their food with,I spoke to him about the fish-stunner,he has housed it in plastic drainpipe but he said he could get metal casings made-up Quote Link to post
mackem 29,013
Octopus lure to entice them from the coral prior to being speared, the first one I ever got was a small blue-ringed octopus, luckily the guy I was with warned me from touching it and a hooked cuttle-fish/squid lure for use at night under the boats lights. maty j 6
They look interesting M, Thanks for getting them. Look like they have seen abit of action too. Interesting lures too. Is the hooked onejust tossed overboard on a rope and pulled In? Where did Nilo get his transformer from? I'm finding It difficult sourcing one aswell as a few of the more powerful capacitors. did he say he could make you the other one aswel? Quote Link to post
mackem 29,013
He can make anything mate, its his profession, electrical engineer. The squid lures are jigged under the boats side lights, when your on the beaches at night you see squidding boats illuminated far out The elastics arent as pretty as yours, but just as effective, the same things they use on their catapults Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Interesting What's the lacky off? Must pack a fair punch to hurl a spear under water. Where did N get his transformer? I'm not having much luck with A1 and can't find one with the same spec anywere else. Quote Link to post
mackem 29,013
I never asked him where he got it from Maty,we just chatted about friends who live in the area,I will ask him, they got a turtle this morning anyway, not big enough to make a guitar from however The elastic is just flat-band mate, locally made, most of the hardware stores stock it,theres three types of speargun in the pics, and theres a close-up of a trigger, they are all hand-made,I have seen small kids with tiny ones that work. mackem 29,013
I am assuming he got all the parts local,he certainly had no difficulty obtaining them, but I will find out I will be back in HK maybe april or may?I can source them there if need be? Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Cheers mate I'll have a look around abit more first but If needs be I'll take you up on that offer. Nice turtle, suposed to be good eating so I've heard? What size do they go up to then to make guitars out of them Quote Link to post
mackem 29,013
I used to pick the shells up for next to nothing, certainly large enough to make a guitar body, walk around any fishing village you see the shells here and there, they are powerfull animals when you have hold of them in the water, the one in the pic will probably be sold fist thing in the morning at market, hence the hole drilled in its shell with the cord passed through, tether it at the side of the boat overnight, turtle tastes fine but the eggs are better Quote Link to post
maty j 6
I wouldn't imagine the turtle as a powerful animal really but guess there different under water. Interesting stuff Edited November 5, 2008 by maty j Quote Link to post
chess 0
I wouldn't imagine the turtle as a powerful animal really but guess there different under water. Interesting stuff Yes in "finding Nemo", Nemos dad and Dory fight their way through the jellyfish and wake up on the turtles back and hitch a ride all the way to Sidney. So turtles are actually very strong indeed.........................and far too pretty to eat Quote Link to post
mackem 29,013
Thats just tales clown-fish tell their kids to stop them leaving coral-nursery Chess But I have had hold of a few turtles underwater and they are certainly capable of pulling you along like a scuba-divers sea-scooter,though methinks they would run out of steam long before Sydney Quote Link to post

I imagine it to be a white meat akin to chicken or rabbit Quote Link to post
mackem 29,013
I have only ever seen Hawksbills killed chess, they bleed a lot,red meat.I once watched a chinese guy in Wanchai market de-shell a still living turtle by knocking the plates from its shell with the edge of a cleaver,no one passing batted an eye-lid Quote Link to post
maty j 6
How do they cook them over there M? I was told there flipped on there backs with the shell on and on to a fire while still alive. If It was killed first all the blood In them would taint the meat or do something to flavour?
