Molie1337 35
Not being funny mate, but that job sounds like a nightmare! I'd advise the farmer to get a pestie in and put poison down. On an area that size, and awkwardness, you'd never make a large impact with ferrets, dogs or guns. Just my opinion though.... and where is the fun in putting poison down?!?!?!?! some people will never learn Quote Link to post

COMPO 54
i use my ferrets on rats, but on the patch of land you describe, not appropriate and you need ferret friendly terriers before even thinking of ferrets. ask the farmer for some weed killer, then use the smoker! ratman 1 0
it takes a game jill for rats they can be KILLED if the rats have young and the ferret finds a nest and rats breed from 6 weeks old Quote Link to post

victor 10
damn victor, u aussys sure have the right idea!! we have actually looked at burning it but apparently according to surrey county council we couldnt light so much as a match because its too close to the M25 (big motorway in the south of england). so thats out and the matbro cant get onto the bank because its so steep! so it looks like we'll have to keep strugling with the smoker On The Hill. glad i checked first, it does seem to be that rats are much harder than ferrets, wich puts them even further to the back of my mind!! cant stand the bloody things, i have scars to prove it! at least smokers dont bite! Cheers all Molie well you cant help it if hooligans lite the thing up, and you and your mates were just making sure that it didnt get out of control :hehe: Quote Link to post
will82 0
I did a bit of ratting with the ferrets a while back, I used my three jills, two of them finished the day with hardly a mark on them but the one albino jill was absolutely nailed she had numerous bites to the neck, she had a cut right through her top lip and her eyelid was ripped she was in a bad way for a couple of days but with a bit of tlc she came through. I would say it all depends on the ferret itself that one proved to be a bit hard for ratting. Quote Link to post

will.f11 24
Id say that sometimes you have to do some things to get to do the other. if you put some poison down on a farm he will know that you are really trying to control his pests and will be more likely to let you rabbit, shoot etc. my dad is a farmer and if he heard that the people didnt actually want to get rid of the pests but keep them there for fun then they would lose all permission very fast. and its not all about fun, there are way too many rats everywhere so you dont need to preserve them for god sakes Quote Link to post

Smokers and terriers are the way to go for rats or a good course of rodenticide. I cant see the benefit of entering a good working ferret knowingly into a rat hole you tit. Quote Link to post
