Just wondering if many people bother with offal nowadays? I'm in my mid twenties, and when i talk about it most people my age, they look at me as if i'm suggesting canibalism! Got one of my mates to eat lambs heart last night, and he was well impressed! Just seems to me alot of people miss out on a cheap and delicious feed, and i don't know why?

i like a decent bit liver have stayd clear of the rabbit liver since i was young due to people talkiing about liver fluke but i like a decent bit lamd offal , one thing i would never touch now is a chickens liver or turkey offal due to the intense farming method although if i had the room to rear my own i would eat everything i could . the girl and kids turn there nose up at liver but hey its all the extra for me . i always mind when i was young and my grandad used to boil sheep and pig heads up for the dogs and he would pick out the eyes n eat them now that turns me insides, you cant get such thing now a days only the butcher that does my dog mince has ever got bones anymore its a joke !!

Cant beat it liver kidney heart chitlings even black pudding I guess is offal!

Use to do my own pressed tongue but dont know if you can even buy one 'raw' now?

Thinking about it have 'lost' my original tongue press.

When I was a kid and we had a pig killed we got nearly all of it back in one form or another.

Head & trotters were made into brawn owt was wasted!

Last time I got one off a mate didnt even get the liver!! was told butchers perks! Feck the butcher its mine!

Anyhow I was always told there is only one bit of a pig you cant eat

I think one of the issues is that people have been brainwashed by seeing meats packed nicely in supermarkets. If they used their local butcher and saw all the different things available and tried different things, they'd be amazed.

I bought a pigs head from my local butcher a few months ago to make brawn. My work colleagues were mortified and were nearly sick when I said that pigs cheek was fantastic. They refused point blank to try my brawn.

I then asked how many of them liked sausages, of which there were many. I then proceeded to tell them that many butchers make them with the meat from the pigs head!!:laugh::laugh:

They also think I'm a dog for buying sweetbreads and sweetmeats - cheap as chips and beautiful. They just wont try things though!!

Never been a big fan of offal myself, even though I was brought up with liver & kidneys. I don't mind the odd bit of kidney in a steak & kidney pie. I like haggis, black pudding & faggots.

I tried a bit of lamb heart a few weeks ago. I buy them for the ferrets, and I was always tempted to try a bit. I thought it better than liver, but it's still not something I'd go out of my way to eat though, although I might try it cooked with some onions & bacon at some point in the future!

OK. Someone's going to ask. What the hell are beef curtains.

Traditional Scottish thing is "Potted Hied", made from sheeps heads. Leave on the cheeks and every second tongue. Some butchers still make them. Nobody has mentioned tripes, done with onions and white sauce they are not bad.
