No, youre doing it right.....only need to cock it if it is completely empty..... i.e. NOTHING in it.

Don't ask me why this is though!

 

it's because there's usually pressure on the exhaust valve by the hammer spring pushing the hammer onto the valve.

 

the air from your bottle goes in the filler end and straight out of the exhaust valve :yes:

 

this isn't the case with all pre charged rifles but certainly is with my 707career...
