Hounds, huntsmen and best days.

Recommended Posts

Dont seem to be much talk about hounds and hunts on this site. So feel free to reply to the following: (Pre ban of corse)

Whats your favourite breed of hound and why? Who is the best huntsman you have ever seen? Whats the best day you have ever had?

I prefer the welsh hound, being from wales ofcorse.ha. I like the tone of voice and the rough rugged look of them, also witnessed some real game ones that pull out like any bull x around. The best huntsman I have ever seen is Moelfryn Jones Former Banwen hunt and Cwm Giedd hunt, although I was only young when walking with him we didnt half have some cracking days and killed alot of foxes on bad terrain. Many people locally praise him for his breeding of hounds. The best hunting day I have ever had was in Beddgelert North Wales, on invitation with Gogerddan. 3 were accounted for that day with some awsome hunting although we didnt see 60% of it as we couldnt keep up with the hounds.

i keep 3 hounds. harriers, one is a welsh/harrier cross. its great craic hunting after them. we use them to run foxes to ground for our terriers. i only started building my small pack 2 years ago. have to say i love hearing them cry after a fox.

two of my bitches running this will be their second full season and the pup(welsh x) will be her first. a mate of mine has a beagle x setter ready to hunt this year so we'll have 4 running as a pack, last year only had 2,so hoping for a good season. will start back last sunday in sept, and i cant fcukin wait.

i used to enjoy cubbing before the mfha decided it was not politicly correct , because of unloved, unwashed scum didnt, like it early mornings and evenings, to me these were good times catching foxes, getting young hounds and terriers entered , ive hunted with several packs and worked with some good hunting men, i like all hounds, i think old english do it for me,i dont hunt with hounds at all its not the same since this unworthy govenment gave in. we fought for our rights and and let these lifeless no nothing morons walk all over us, now i feel the foxhound people have closed ranks and they dont want the support of us country lads, lads who at one time the huntsman would ask where foxes were, and gain local knowledge, i dont know who would be my favorite huntsman , bob street .john o,shea, tom battersbee, they all had their own way, and all where good men with hounds

I hunt a Basset, Beagle X tekel and some little Hound crosses, with another basset pup on the way and I'm having the fun of my life. Barry Tod Hunter is a great huntsman and one of the very beast days hunting I ever had was when trying to keep up with him. Another favourite huntsman of mine has got to be David Jukes from the Zetland Hunt. Regards warren

The absolute ultimate hunting hound in my opinion is the Beagle. My fantasy hunting hound if you like would have the drive and scenting ability of the Beagle, the pace of the Harrier the stamina of the old english, the coat of the welsh and the voice of the otterhound.

As for good huntsman I've seen the worst of them have a good day and the best of them sometimes fail but as long as I'm out with hounds nothing else really matters.

Got to agree with you there mate, had some great days out with them, makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when you hear a pack in full voice, :clapper:
