graham01 1
Took out Bob today on one of our farms, cast him off and let him play a bit for 5 mins then swung the lure, gave him four or five passes then offered him the lure.He realy clattered it and i made in and let him eat his ration totaly oblivious to what happened as he was eating i noticed,no tranny,no bell,no fecking tailmount!!!.It had come off, i hooded him and myself and Mick spent the next 20 mins looking for it.I ended up taking off the yagi and just used the coax because of the strength of the signal.I found it evetually and the brass tube mount had just opened up and popped off!(it had been crimped and glued) .Luckily i had a spare tailmount in my bag were i keep the tranny so crimped that on securely and flew him again.I will put some apoxy on the crimp at the weekend to secure it and HOPEFULLY make a better job this time. That was a close one Graham, them crimp clips always seem a bit dodgy to me by the way they just nip round one of the decks even when glued too..... I was flying a male Gos with a pal and at the end of the day returned back to the car and asked him if he could snip the Transmitter off for me, to my surprise it wasn't there plus a deck was missing too! we put the bird in its box and tracked back to a wood where the Gos had crashed into after a game bird had put in. I was getting signals everywhere because I was virtually on top of the bloody Transmitter! we finally found it wrapped round the bottom runner of a old Barbwire fence in the undergrowth with one the decks still attached .... The main thing is we went out with the Hawk and came back with it so I can't complain.... Jasper Quote Link to post

The trouble with those spring clips is that they have a very tenuous link with the body or antenna of the transmitter in the first place.I have been known in the past to use a small (say 1") length of heat shrink tubing to hold them in place. This doen't account for the crappy length of curve that the clip has to hold it in the tube mounted on the tail though. If you're flying at quarry, they have been known to come out on contact.I tend to use a leg mount cap on the trans and double cable tie it onto the tail mount.
