are airpistols legal for shooting rabbits.

Justcurious on this my mate has giving me a .177 pistol, powerfull up to about ten yards. On my permision there is a bank where the rabbits run a long and if i patrol along it they are seen running from one tree to another, with the rifle it takes to long to find in the scope etc so was wondering if i used the pistol would that be ok. you know just for oppertunity targets.

pistols are legal yes, as for shooting a rabbit with one, would have to be a powerful pistol.

hi mate i doubt that your pistol would be powerfull enough to despatch a rabbit cleanley i have a hw45 in 22 cal that i use for very very close range rat shooting in a barn.but thats as far as i would go with pistols stick to a rifle for rabbits mate.happy hunting

My advice for fast target acquisition - open sights or better still a red dot sight. A pistol is just not effecient or practical. You could of course brush up on your stalking skills or lie in wait, camouflaged or in cover. I don't hunt anymore (I breed rabbits now and respect their intelligence) but I would expect those that do to despatch cleanly and humanely with a head shot, so stalking or ambush is the way to do it.

thanks for the advice i do the stalking and lay in wait, but getting up to my usual area means going down this bank, to get there and just see the odd rabbit. not to worry, was only a idea lol. Will stick to the rifle.

but no good for killing rabbits unless as previously said............if trapped or snared....and at very close range.

Same here, as I recently stated in another post, I actually admire the corvid family for their intelligence, but that doesn't stop me from dropping one of the feckers whenever I get a chance!
