frogflyer 0
my thaughts are if you cant fly the bird daylay then you shoodent have 1 simple as My garden is around 20 ft wide and 60 ft long not a very big garden, i used to fly my birds up and down the garden to the fist most nights i got home from work i dont know anyone who would leave there bird in a aviary all week and get the bird out just on the weekend to hunt as the birds fitness wont be up to much, but just getting the birds wings pumping 3-4 nights a week does make a difference to a birds fitness its obvious the more you can hunt a bird the better but to say that you shouldnt have a bird of prey if you cant fly it everyday i think your wrong as it never stopped me having some good sport and catching quarry also it depends on what your intended quarry is, if you want to consistenly catch pheasant, partridge, your hawk will need to be alot fitter than a hawk that is intended for rabbits. Some people may agree with me and some may disagree but this is my opinon, all well and good but, hope not to upset anyone but the problems arise when you look at this from the point of view of the bird as it has to be kept fairly keen to fly weather it be a light workout or a heavy workout the bird does not want to be kept too keen to be just flown up and down the garden it wants to be keen and then hunt and finish with a full crop and be completly fed up as you can imagine when ever working with raptors of any kind allways think from thier point of view not allways becasue you want to hunt on a certain day/date/time, but because it suits the bird and you have managed the weight right for the day you go to hunt. hope not to have offended to many people but i used to own a falconry centre back in england and we used to get these questions on a regular bassis. as before the point remains the birds welfare comes first no matter what Quote Link to post
