Another mother and daughter picture of deerhound crosses from the early 80`s

The smooth coat is a deerhound/greyhound x collie/greyhound the pups sire was a deerhound/greyhound x beardie cross..hard as bell metal smooth bitch 23 and a half, rough haired 24 inches, fawn bitch below, 23 inches..

And thats me when I was 14, :D do you like me fence? always was a bit of a carpenter

and this deerhound lurcher, great grand daughter of the smooth black bitch above would lie on top of a pile of rabbits like this, and guard it..take the nose end off anything that got too close, ha, ha..she never quite made the grade for me, but she did kill 34 when one of my apprentices took her out one night

great pictures keeps, looks a very nice dog too. what age is it now? What height would an average deerhound/greyhound make? and would you reccomend it as a starter lurcher or get something that will mature alittle quicker?

Thanks steve

Shes coming up to 3 now and about 25 - 26" tts, around the same size as her dam. There was a lot of variation in her litter though, and some of the pups took after their sire in size, who was a first cross. In fact one of the litter was a beast and made 30" tts, but is said to be doing very well on the lamp. The first cross bitch I have is much larger, at 29" tts. Generally first crosses are quite a lot bigger. I wouldn't recommend one for anyone who is impatient and expects immediate results without waiting for a dog to mature, as you have pointed out, they can be slow to mature but once matured I find them to be the most loyal of dogs who will do anything to please. As has been pointed out somewhere else, I'm not sure if its on this thread or another, they try so hard that they will still try to carry on even if they are injured.

nice looking dogs above , i've never tried this cross ......what are they like for obiedience , recall and retrieving ????

very clever obdient dogs , the bitch will recall to hand dead just the way we like it lol.shes doing quite well on the lamp

hes a bit of a pain to retrieve , he getting better though.

this seasons gonna be a big one for both dogs in question , he misses more than he gets on the lamp due to his size and turn lets him down. marks up sets daytime and gets a few daytime bolters.but hes for the big game, lets hoping he has it in him, he weights about 80pounds, nice tempermant.

Just keep at it mate practice makes perfect for these dogs...seen sum big dogs take quarry with ease after they've had couple of good seasons under their belt

black bitch is gone to doggie heaven as electric wire RUINED HER,plus the big dog has a sprained toe for the past 3 monthhs, after reading doxhopes book(which in my opinion hes the biggest liar ever) he just cant shake this injury, which bill in his book said deer x grey dont suffer from toe trouble???is this guy on crack cocaine????????????????????????
