lets see some deerhound x greyhound

Recommended Posts

Whats your memories of the above breeding from your side doxhope, were the ancestors of the pups to be all rounders?Ive seen these dogs run and catch and they are very determined animals.they dont hang about when theres a quarry spieces in front of them.I'm looking forward to reading about the dogs of your past.

Doxhope Hylda was bred out of the best hare coursing pure bred deerhound male Ive ever had the pleasure to spectate, Coronach Pennys Chieftain.. And he was one of the all time greats in the organised deerhound coursing world. He was only ever beaten once in his carear, and that was by one of his daughters, bred by us. I saw him win his first coursing meeting at just over 15 months, and his next a month later, thats when I decided I needed him as a stud. He was bred out of Coronach Luckpenny, a fabulous coursing bitch, who also did a lot of winning.

I mated him to one of the best bitches we produced (quality wise) Doxhope Lady Annadaille, although her litter sister Becky was a far superior worker.

Both Hyldas mother, and her sister Becky killed everything..and I lamped, ferreted and mouched with them as I would any lurcher Ive owned. Hyldas grand-mother was a good lamping bitch, I entered her into 2 lamping competitions against lurchers, and she won her way through to the semi final of one, but I had to with draw her because she was 7 weeks pregnant and we couldnt run the semi final off in time because of the weather conditions.

All the deerhounds Ive mentioned here have taken into the high twenties on a nights lamping, ok for dogs that some say are too big for bunnies. They also killed hares day and night, fox and roe..so in a way yes they were all-rounders, not great all-rounders, but all-rounders never-the-less.

If you want any other info matie, please ask, then you wont get any exageration or bemoaning of the facts of what the dogs did.

Some great pics on this thread by the way

Your Laird Glenesk is out of Becky, our best ever working bitch that we kept back

Heres a pic of her
