Bradford Lad 74
Have just looked on Epupz at the price of Lakey's and Patterdales as i'm after red Lakey/Patt bitch, the average price was around£250 going upto £300!! I only paid £120 each for both of mine a couple of years ago! Was just wandering what some of your views are on the prices today and why the massive increase in price? Quote Link to post

Dont know anything about prices never bought one never sold one , should be thousands of pounds each but in reality you have got to give them to people who will try each generation to its upmost ,if you stay in the job long enough someone will give you a pup of the correct breeding. lonedigga 23
Just bred a litter for my own use and sold a surplus pup for £100, to be honest i felt a bit guilty charging anything but don't think that was an unreasonable price to someone i didn't know.Personally i think that big money is the downfall of some breeds and it's sad to see whole litters being sold for silly prices,i think the fell types are becoming too popular with the show/pet brigade and it won't be too long before working fell/lakie/patterdales will be in a minority to the pet/show type same as russells, borders and bedlingtons...jmo Quote Link to post

Bradford Lad 74
Showman, your right, but i certainly wont be parting with £250+ for one!! Quote Link to post
borderland 0
prices of pups are a joke at the minute. My advice would be to get to know a few hunting lads and get a pup through one of them. In saying that I got a pup through this site but I saw videos of the dog working and only bought it when I was convinced the parents were workers. Its always a good sign If the owner only has a few extra for sale and is keepin at least 1 himself. Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
I don't buy or sell pups, never have. But I believe the price for Boxers, Poodles etc. can be 500+. Does that not mean our pups should be 5000+ LOL. The fact is most people who breed haven't room for the entire litter so some have to be sold. This is different to churning out pups for money or puppy farming if you like. It's a no win situation. If you sell pups cheap the punter feels they're cheap because they're rubbish. Too dear and your ripping him off. Also the man who wont pay for any pup often wont appreciate them anyway. If the prices go beyond the working mans pocket then only the gangsters among us can afford them. And they don't appreciate them either. Personally if I wanted a particular pup from particular breeding I would pay what ever the price, no matter what. But then again I've never been in that situation. Quote Link to post

Bailey 16
The last two litters we bred we kept 3 out off five from the 1st litter and gave the other two away to local digging lads so we could see how they ended up and the 2nd litter we gave away all 3 pups again to local lads so we could see if they made the grade. This is just an observation of mine but you dont see to many irish lads on selling terrier pups from 100 % parents and you will never see any on selling working dogs and i have my own views as to why this is.
