Kye 77
Hi Mackem,.. Im sure a bear with a spear HAS been done...i mean, not many Holland and Hollands around for Cavemen eh!?..lol. Seriously though, im sure someone has done it, but ive not heard about it....i have two types of spear, one for throwing at short range (but can be used as a thrusting weapon) and i have one for sticking, but im sure a larger guy could chuck it a fair enough way...the handles are short though, only a few feet long... Who knows, i might get there and bottle it!..lol...and i wouldnt want to murder some poor little cub, that defies the object/purpose of it... Hi again Doc,.. Im gonna try and make Loomis mate...money is tight, as usual..lol...but the wife REALY wants to go, and i think FR wanted to tag along...if Grace is 'in', i could maybe bring Blister, so he can 'get his freak on!'...lmao!... Get your arse to Kansas mate!...im sure once funds are better, i will get a rig, then you and your family will be sick at the sight of me!..lol. Jay.. Quote Link to post
mackem 26,813
Thats true,I can visualise cro-magnon driving cave bears from his doorstep with a fire-hardened point,I just didnt think bear-spearing ranked up there with rifle-shooting as a popular weekend sport,I think it would be real primal, you would have to film it,I dont think you would bottle it,the adrenaline-rush would keep you in the zone, but it would be a neanderthalic scene, man and dog fighting against an age-old enemy Read "The clan of the cave-bear" to psyche you up beforehand Quote Link to post
UphillDoc 278
Kye-If she is heat I will bring her for Blister. On the subject of bear stabbing, read the book by Meshach Browning "44 years the life of a hunter" its about a bear hunter from the US in the late 17 early 1800's that hunted with lurchers and a knife... Take care. Quote Link to post
Dan Edwards 1,134
Here is a pic of a big black bear in a tree. I believe this is the one I ate the liver out of aint it Doc? Note to self dont get drunk and bear hunt, it causes you to act like a tard. Also a pic of Grace treed under a bear. Edited August 28, 2008 by Dan Edwards Quote Link to post
mackem 26,813
Guesstimate the bears weight doc? Quote Link to post
Kye 77
A KNIFE!...ffs!..lol. Why not just go the whole hog!?...you can work my Corner Doc, and i will just bring the Vale-Tudo short and my mouth guard...my high-croth is getting decent, and it cant be that different!...i mean a guy weighing 155lbs and 6-0", 'aint gonna be tougher than a 250-300lbs bear right?...as long as elbows are allowed on the ground, and its three minute rounds, NOT five minutes, count me in!... Jay.. Quote Link to post
UphillDoc 278
Dan-That is the bear whos liver you ate...Ty is still talking about that and the rig box surfing... mackem-Thats was a pretty good boar, about 300-350lbs. Kye-A friend sent me the book and after I read it, I said "now I HAVE to try it" but Im not opposed to letting you go first... When we caught the lion I posted the story on, I wanted to scruff it for a pic, but nobody would grab the tail...they were afraid I would let go of my end when they did, just for some good video... Take care. Quote Link to post
Kye 77
lol...i know you would have as well you sod!..lol. A few weekends ago, me and FR was clearing some coon out, and i managed to scruff this small coon...FR goes to stick his head down the hole under some old tin sheeting, to see what else is going on, then spins around, looks at me holding the coon, smiling to myself, and he says to me.."Dont even f*****g think about it!"...lmao... ratkilla 35
Uphilldoc from the stories you have written up on it must be a buzz hunting quarry of that size and with dog of your own, the adrenaline from the hunt must be enough to top any one with a dodgy heart. When i'm next over i'd love to come hunt some bears even see Kye do his war dance for a bear with his spear. Would love to see a dog on a bobcat they good sport or like a giant ditch cougar ? Also Uphilldoc how do you find grace for stamina, running with them hounds across that sorta terrain must be hard going. Quote Link to post
Cupid Stunt 18
I believe this is the one I ate the liver out of aint it Doc? I take it you don't eat any of the bear flesh then? I've always fancied trying a bear stew, steak etc after reading about it in some books i bought years ago, produced by the North American Hunting Club. Quote Link to post
UphillDoc 278
ratkilla-Your welcome to come hunt anytime. I want to see the spear dance myself. My expierience with bobcats and dogs is IF the dog is set on killing it, it is like a giant ditch cougar, but if the dog tries to mix or is only half hearted, it is like a monkey with a switchblade...LOL "Grace" does not have hound stamina, but you would probably be surprised how long she can stay hooked in a race. Her strength is the speed she can run the track and how hard she convinces the bear to climb when she gets there. In walk/bay and fight/break type races she will stay for hours, otherwise Im happy with a solid hour of running from her, as she usually gets them treed sooner than that anyways... Cupid-Dan ate the liver raw and still hot... Lots of folks eat the flesh, but Im not a big fan. If I kill one, I feed it to the dogs. Now Mountain Lion, thats good eatin... Take care.
