not true mate i take it the small lurcher you are talking about is a greyhound x and not a whippet x the greyhound has less stamina than the whippet as for the whippet not haveing stamina my ones will maybe run 50 runs in one night so i think that is un true

Are they ped or no ped whippets, i had a no ped bitch 19ins 20lb, and she was ok for 30 odd run's

in the lamp. She was racing whippet from cannock [west midlands]. Some of the dogs[ males]

were 21ins 34lb, and would tackle anything. With dogs like these you dont need small lurchers,

the only thing they lack were a thicker coat, that you might get from a whippet x

they are all ped one dog is 21 and a half inches 40lb and will do all what you said a thicker coat would not help a small lurchers proformance as we dont get the cold winters like we used to just my views

friend has a laguna /nimrodel whippet 19and a half inches i have a small lurcher 20 inches whippet on both sides when she is in her stride there is no contest and its only a half inch the whippet is pedigree but its horses for courses as the lurcher is a more versatile dog and will do a little bit more its not just about running its the whole package however of the mark the whippet is like a rocket and he is a great rabbiting and mooching dog and a great assett even if a bit headstrong.

and who said the coat was to keep out the cold, its just as much for protection in cover.

Im not knocking whippets as ive seen some very good examples,however i just think a small well bred lurcher has many advantages over a pure whippet,better coat,better feet,better stamina,better jaw,and if they are bred right more fire.JMO

i have worked both had whippets for over 18 years grate we dogs but if they hit a fence they open up like a can of beans and they dont like the rain now i have had a beddy whippet and 3 1/4 whippet 1/4 bull and they both just had that something extra i have worked lurchers for ovr 30 years but thats just my opinon

who is breeding real working whippets not ones that run lures or sim coursing because whilst it has merit it is really only one aspect of what required in the field. i would say alot of people go for small lurchers because they are put off by the way the non pedigree show people have ruined the whippets. i will say this the person that started this topic has some good looking dogs as i see them at the shows. I will be looking for a w hippet dog for next summer to cover my lurcher bitch so i am interested to see aht this topic will reveal.

 

there are plenty of real working whippet breeders out there , just need to ask around and see who is doing what and cut out some of the crap thats out there

i know it aint 40 but got 20 rabbits with my whippet last week,this was his first real night this season and it is his first real season.must admit he was goosed at the end of the night and a bit stiff the next morning! i know ther is only 16 in the picture, 4 fell out of the hole in the side of rucksack honest!
