Guest Bigbob
Biggest ive done is over 6oo holes on a railway banking ,used to put 300 purse nets down and a 100 yard long net along the top and fire in up to 16 ferrets ,after it quietend down we would lift the purse nets reset then on the other half and spin the longnet round and start ferreting again .Now we just run 250 yard of long netting along the top and put in the ferrets . Guest Uk_Hunter
130 hole's,you must be keen,i curse if i have to lay 20 lol u guys ever seen whippets at work? they do rabbit sets with about 500 holes they net up about 300 and also use long nets and whippets and a man with a shotgun and springer they walked away with over 100 rabbits in a few hours but 20-30 is the max for me lol Quote Link to post

Rabbithunter 456
I usually find it depends on the situation whether i use the long or purse nets. A few months back i was ferreting 2 hedgerows on my own, in a field by the roadside, so it wasnt too bad carting the longnets up there. The first dyke was around 40 yards long and i used four ferrets. I came off that dyke with only 5 rabbits, one of the hobs had a rabbit at a hole and the bunny bolted with the hob still on him, i missed one or two where i ran out of long net and couldn't arc it back into the dyke. . The second was more like 60 yards long, longnets either side with 4 ferrets again, the bolting was fast and furious and the main task was jumping over the fence onto a patch of hawthorn. The second i put the ferret in, 2 rabbits and a half grown rabbit bolted. I came off with 9 but as i was picking up the longnet i discovered a rabbit sitting in a nice tight ball, making ten. I then purse netted a field set and got a further three. Ferreting to long nets is great fun on the right bit, you dont want to be setting 200 yards of longnet for a single rabbit. When it comes to the larger 60+ holers its alright if there is 2 or 3 of us doing it as we can lay and pick up nets in no time. Already looking forward to next season........ Quote Link to post
